Horrible experience. Would not recommend hotel. The rooms are old and dated. The carpet was the worst I have ever seen in a hotel. It does not deserve 3 stars.

We stayed at The Monterey through our travel agent. First we had a room in the historic part, facing the street with an open window in the bathroom and a window in the bedroom that didn't close properly. Sleeping was out of the question, and difficult in summer temperatures with no A/C and no fridge. At the service desk, Josh helped us very nicely and in a very friendly manner, we had a room in the newer part on a quieter street that was more like the hotel in terms of facilities. Unfortunately there was no air conditioning there either and it was 28°C at night even though it was below 20 outside. The quieter street doesn't help much if you have to leave the windows open to get air with the fan :) Location and staff are really great, but I wouldn't go back or recommend the rooms without A/C.

No AC. It was horribly hot and there was a note to say that there was no AC as it was a ‘historical hotel’. The windows were hard to open as the blinds were old and couldn’t be opened. The front desk people ( who were really nice) then opened it for us, but the street noise was SO loud, I couldn’t sleep. No ceiling fan either. Carpet was faded and the whole place was old and crying for a renovation. Would NEVER stay here again. For 280$ a night, I expected at least air conditioning.

This was the worst hotel stay of my life. The pictures on the website were deceiving as the rooms were far more outdated and not at all maintained. The walls are incredibly thin so you can hear everything everywhere. There isn't any air conditioning in the rooms and housekeeping isn't available everyday. The seagulls will also keep you up all night. The only good thing about this hotel is its location. I literally rebooked a different hotel because I dreaded coming back to it in the evening.
