How much housing assistance a housing authority provides is based on your income and the fair market rates set by HUD for each area.
If you are inquiring about our waiting list for the housing choice voucher program, it varies based on your position on the list. Unfortunately, we cannot provide a time estimate.
The Regional Housing Authority (RHA) is currently taking applications for the MainStream Voucher Program only. This type of voucher is for households that have at least one family member that is disabled and is between the ages of 18-61. We have four preferences for families that are applying for our waiting list. Our preferences are disability, homeless, resident of our four county jurisdiction, and veterans. Our four county jurisdiction include the counties of Alexander, Burke, Catawba and Caldwell. As people continue to apply, those with more preferences will move ahead of those that have less. This is the reason that the waiting list numbers could and will continue to change. The numbers will stop changing when we close the waiting list and are no longer taking new applications. At this point, that date has yet to be determined. Should you have further questions, please reach out to the RHA staff at 828-322-9191.
Depending on your needs, we have a variety of programs. Please call our office or check our our services on our website to see what might apply in your case.
The waiting list changes regularly and is increasing while the application period is open. It is common for our waiting list to initially exceed a couple of thousand persons.
We do not have resources to assist with water bill payments. Contact your local government utility provider or call 211 to obtain information about potential assistance.
Section 8 vouchers are given for a 60 day time frame and extensions are ONLY granted for specific reasons. For the most up to date information on the Section 8 Housing Program at the Western Piedmont Council of Governments, please visit the website at wpcog.org. and click on the Regional Housing Authority link.
We are not currently accepting applications. We anticipate opening our waiting list for applications from June 4th through 18th, 2021. Applications will be online and found on our website at that time.
The amount of rent you must pay is based on your income and not the amount of hours you work. Contact your assigned WPCOG housing specialist to discuss details for your situation. Thanks!
We have a program for housing repairs for those that meet the income limitations. The program funds are limited and we often have a waiting list. Call our office (828-322-9191) and speak to someone in Community Development about that program. Thanks!
Federal rules do not allow Section 8 assistance to pay for hotel/motel stays.
I don't work there but I'm sure someone will help you. Show up early and ask the lady at the desk. I use their services. They're very kind. Just ask.
We are accepting applications until December 31, 2019. After that date, our waiting list will be closed for an undetermined period of time. At this link is a secure online application form: http://www.wpcog.org/regional-housing-authority.
Yes, annual inspections for our Section 8 housing clients are scheduled in advance.
How do know we're u are at on the list

He can apply for housing assistance. Here is a link to the application: http://www.wpcog.org/applicants. You can also call the office to speak with a regional housing authority staff person.
Applicants will receive their waiting list position two times each year, by mail. The RHA plans to purge the waiting list every six months in February and August. At that time, applicants will receive a letter requesting a response. Once those responses have been processed, we will notify applicants of their position on the waiting list. The RHA would like to encourage applicants to continue to keep their address updated with us. We notify applicants by mail when they reach the top of the waiting list. Please understand that our only method of communication with waiting list applicants is by mail. Therefore, it is critical that we have the most up to date mailing address. The RHA is dedicated to assisting as many families as quickly as possible. Not releasing waiting list positions will help us dedicate more time to providing housing assistance.
You will have to remain on the waiting list until your number comes up and continue to pay full amount of rent. You can call in I think it's one time every 3 mos to see where you are on the list. I waited 2 years before my number came up. Also did you turn in a copy of your Award letter showing you are on Disability? If not you need to do so that will push you up on the list.
