My family loves this park. It's a beautiful area. You can walk along The Shiawassee River. There's a little bench area in the brick work it spells Owosso there's a list of prominent citizens from the past. That is you walk south through the park. You come along the Shiawassee Art Center which is a very nice place. Then you come to the Heritage Bridge. This is the suspension bridge that links the park over to the other side of town. Then you come to the Comstock cabin. This was found inside another building and was One of the original houses in Owosso it was built for judge Comstock. Then you come to Curwood Castle. Curwood Castle is the writing studio of author James Oliver Curwood. It is now a museum that features some of his adventures in paintings. It also has his books. In the basement they are running a rotating exhibit of other famous people from Owosso. It's worth checking out. There is an admission price to the castle.

Cool place! Relaxing and romantic atmosphere. We happened upon two weddings in the same 30 minutes there. Others must feel similar lol.

We went there 12 years ago. I wish there were more to look around upstairs. But a great story telling about Curwood's life. We sometimes visit the park to walk around.

I enjoy this little park for quick visits to eat and watch the river. It would be nice if they had more than just one picnic table. It's always taken and the benches don't seem to be as popular. It also would be more enjoyable if they had flowers planted or any landscaping for that matter. Lots of potential and good location though.

Questions & Answers

Has the dam been removed (Shiawassee River)? Is it safe to kayak past here or must you portage?

There is a dam but it has a break in the middle so it's technically a weir. Absolutely safe to pass in a kayak without a portage.
