Of course this is a quiet and peaceful barrier island in part because it's not easily accessible. You can get there on a boat or a short swim and the long walks that are available with ample wildlife are very pleasant. It's especially nice early and late winter during the large bird migrations. Highly recommended, with one exception, if there's no breeze, the sand flies and mosquitoes will definitely find you so repellent is necessary on those days. Remember to not disturb anything, especially the wildlife and just leave your footprints

I don't think camping is allowed anywhere in the refuge. There's camping on Tybee island near the beach.
There is a lottery system for hunting on Wassaw. You need to register for Wassaw Island National Wildlife Refuge through the Savannah Wildlife Refuge System.
As Angus indicated, you can set foot on Wassaw no earlier than sunrise and you have to be off the island by sunset. This gives the island refuge back to the wildlife for the night without human presence and therefore interference.
You can, but you won't see much beyond your mask! The water is very nutrient rich but very turbid. The viz is very low. The reefs are much further offshore and the best one is Gray's Reef about 20 mile's offshore of Sapelo Island.
Jeff Garrison said best. No wind, not very likely, you will have sand gnats.
By boat. Do you have one?If you have a boat you can land at the DNR station on Odensel River on the south west side of the island. Temporary tie ups should be OKAY but not more than for a few hours I believe is the policy now You can call them to clarify at Dnr. The parson Family owns the center of the island
No. It is a wildlife refuge. You can camp on Little Tybee
No camping. You can only reach the island by boat and it is a great place to spend the day though.
