My daughter and I visited CCHS a few times in search of a cat we could give a nice home to. On the application I made sure to note we had previously found a cat in our neighborhood that we brought into our home. After going door-to-door we could not locate who the beautiful cat belonged to. So we took the cat to the Henry County Vet Hospital to check for a microchip but none was found. So then we paid for a full examination and the cat came back with a perfect bill of health. After that we went to the store and bought food, toys and everything we felt our cat may need and love as we welcomed the cat home. Two weeks later we found out the cat belonged to an older couple who lived down the street and had been out of town, they had been looking for the cat since they returned. My daughter and I were broken hearted but felt it only right to return the cat to her rightful owners. Our hope was restored when we found the Clayton County Humane Society, we submitted an application. We also wrote a letter and explained about us finding the previous cat and returning her back to the older couple. We provided CCHS with a copy of the vet record and visit for the cat to prove we had a vet already established and could pay for proper care. When I returned the application I did not feel the older lady who reviewed it on the spot was very warm nor welcoming but in-fact appeared to be very judgemental (for whatever reason)! Three days later I got a call from a guy (I believed named Keith) that the application was denied. When I inquired why it was denied (in hopes to fix whatever they felt was wrong) he stated they didn't give reasons (the "board"). There was no compassion nor sympathy when he spoke. It all came across as very callous. My daughter was so hurt when I told her and asked " but why?" A reason they didn't even give me to tell her! I definitely agree with the review below that this place lets adopts who they "want". I honestly believed I was already DENIED at 1st sight, it did not matter the credidentials. I don't know what the priority is here but DEFINITELY DOESN'T seem to be the animals nor a loving home. ***UPDATE*** After receiving response from owner below (who is probably apart of this secret "board") there was still no clarity provided. What is even more baffling is how 1 person now has the ability to speak on the behalf of a whole (again) "board". Lol, what a joke.

I was denied on my application. I was told they are picky on the applicants on who can adopt. Did everything they asked and got denied. I will definitely let others know about this place. The people that work there are nice but the application process is bias. It’s a shame. I didn’t even get an explanation as to why I was denied.
sisters for life
I went there with my daughters to see if we could find a friend for my baby (he gets lonely) as we are all busy. Unfortunately they were closed however we did see a woman there she was very kind and friendly. I would definitely encourage anyone looking for a family friend who needs a forever home to please visit them.

Me and my boyfriend adopted 3 beautiful kitties, Waylon, Garth, and Amaretto. They’re still settling in but they’re the sweetest things in the world, we love all of them so much and super excited to move forward in our lives as a family. We thank the Clayton County Humane Society for giving us this opportunity for an amazing and beautiful family. They were all super helpful from the beginning, we chose Waylon and Garth first, but then we wanted a third, a big sister we originally had in mind, but we met Amaretto and fell in love IMMEDIATELY, the whole process is very smooth and easy. They obviously don’t do same day adoption but I didn’t mind that, it gave us time to make sure we absolutely had everything to make their new home comfortable.

Current adoption fee for dogs here is $200. Fee includes spay/neutering, vaccinations, and chip.
We accept animals on the basis of space availability. You must speak with our staff to see if we have space for new animals. Our situation changes daily, so you MUST get approval. 770-471-9436..speak with Wilma or Keith.
Give then a call to just come on by and they can put your time and talents to work!
Call them at the number they have here to see if they can help you find a low cost clinic to take him. Or try to see if you can call the human services line at 211, they open 24/7 to see if they can refer you to a low cost clinic because they have all sorts of information to help the general public. I hope this helps. Pray to god for guidance and hope for the best.
I,want to know how much is the rabbies shots for dogs
It is located between Jonesboro high school and the bus barn, on N Mcdonough Rd.
There is a process no same day taking your choose pet home.
Check their website the animals can change weekly, you may have a better chance with animal control
I don"t think so. Thats probably the role of Animal Control.
Stop in and see Wilma or Keith fir an application. It's very rewarding to assist in helping the animals while they are waiting for their new home.
Yes, come in while we're open and sign up.
NEVER! We don't euthanize dogs or cats!
We didn't inquire about micro chips at CC. They do at Henry County Humane Society in McDonough.
We don't "just have cats and pitbulls". I wish people would NOT answer questions when they DON'T KNOW the correct answers.
We have had no inquiries about a missing dog matching this description. He may well be microchipped. My suggestion is to take him to a vet's office or Animal Control and have them scan for a chip. In the meantime, I can post him on Lost and Found Pets of Clayton County. I need to know the area he was found and contact info for you, so that a potential owner can reach out to reclaim their dog.
No, they don't accept animals like that, you'd have to call clayton county animal control
Wish I could
We are currently full to capacity. Please contact Atlanta Humane Society or FurKids
It depends on how much space we have. What are you trying to give up?
Email meowornever.com they may be able to help
I was looking to adopt. I am not sure but you may find instructions on line or call them.
We don't have a "check off" list of "requirements". We look at at each application individually, realizing that every animal is different and may have different needs from a new home. The questions on our application give us a basic look at the applicant, and if we have additional questions or concerns, we have a basis for discussion.
Kennel cough can be dangerous, and you need to be sure of what you are actually dealing with. You need to get your dog to a vet for proper diagnosis and treatment. Severe coughing could also indicate heartworms....which can also be very serious. Please seek veterinary advice and care immediately.
I'm not sure i only looked at dogs
We do when we have space. How many and how old?
18 years old
Fell in love with a dog that I thought was a perfect fit for me own my home with a big back yard i the next days was all thought about was me and my new dog sorry to say I didn't get my new dog because they thought we wasn't a good fit because I didn't have any veterinarian history i was a truck driver on the road and lost my last dog 10yr ago so sad heart broken 💔 😢
NO...THE CLAYTON COUNTY HUMANE SOCIETY DOES NOT EUTHANIZE ANIMALS...We don't euthanize animals at our shelter and we don't euthanize for the public!! Mr. Peterson..please don't answer questions when you clearly know NOTHING about us or how we operate.
They don't do that there. No More Puppies is an organization that will do it for no cost.
We do currently have puppies, however they are too young to leave at present time. Once ready for adoption, their adoption fee will be $200.
No, we do not hold dogs.
That would be the place to take them
You will need to contact Animal Control. We currently have 23 kittens and approximately 20 adult cats....I have no space.
I am President of Clayton County Humane Society and WE DO use volunteers! Another response here was very incorrect in stating that we don't! And yet another response said that we are a government facility, and that is also INCORRECT. We are NOT a government agency. Call our shelter at 770-471-9436 and simply let our staff know that you wish to volunteer. They will be able to guide you to the next step.
We don't have a "military discount", but we do have a "senior to senior" offer. Senior animals are often very hard to place, and they usually do better in a more mature, settled environment. So if a "senior" finds a senior dog or cat that they like in our program, if all adoption requirements are met, we waive the adoption fee completely.
I would suggest contacting Jazzy Paws Spay Neuter Clinic in Jonesboro (assuming you are local). I am not certain about what you consider a "neighborhood cat", but if you are referring to free roaming outside cats, I wouldn't recommend a collar for 2 reasons...the collar can get caught on objects that could cause the cat to become trapped or unable to move freely, and second, without routine observation and supervision, the collar could become too tight on the cat and again, cause grave injury. You are better off to have the cat sterilized and vaccinated, but forget about the collar.....it simply presents too much risk to the cat's safety.
100 for cats 200 for dogs everything is taken care of
Agreed. Adopting is best and they are great.
Yes, it's either half off or free. They don't advertise that fact. But talk to them. They're super nice folks.
For low cost spay and neuter please contact one of the following: Lifeline Animal Project, JazzyPaws, Forest Park Animal Hospital.
We do not "sell" animals. We are an adoption facility for dogs and cats.
Part of our adoption process is to help make as certain as possible, that you adopt an animal which "fits" your situation. If you are approved and you take a dog home, you may ALWAYS notify us and return the animal to us...no matter how long ago you adopted. But generally speaking, no, we would not let you "exchange" one animal for another. There are very extenuating circumstances where I might see a second animal being given a chance, that is really very unlikely. But taking the original dog back would certainly happen.
Strays are required by law to be taken to Clayton County Animal Control. This rule is to give owners a chance to reclaim their lost pet. Contrary to other responses here to your question, very few animals are euthanized at Animal Control. Most animals who are not reclaimed by their owners, are made available for adoption or taken in by local rescue groups.
I wasn't gonna abandon the animal if I was why would I ask about it but okay
They will take food, pet beds and collars.
Yes, they do take unopened cat and dog food.
We DO NOT buy animals. Nor do we condone or assist in selling them. If you CAN'T take care of this baby, you need to surrender him to us or another reputable animal rescue. We DO NOT view animals as property to be sold for profit!
Hello Rebecca. Clayton County Humane Society is a no kill shelter. Please go to claytoncountyhumane.org for their number. You will need to call to see if they have space. If Clayton County Humane does not have space, contact Atlanta Humane Society on Howell Mill for an admission date.
We have a printable application online, but it can't be answered online. Print, complete, then you can drop off, mail, or fax.
Please stop in to speak with the shelter managers directly about surrendering your dogs. Since Clayton Co Humane is a no kill shelter space is often limited for new admissions. If Clayton County Humane doesn't not have space, the shelter managers can recommend alternative options for you.
I paid 100.00 but it has all shots and was fixed already and she is chipped
No, the adopter must meet with us in person. No exceptions.
To view adoptable pets please visit www.claytoncountyhumane.org
Clayton Humane Society is no kill. Currently they are aceppting kittens since they have no room. Please contact Atlanta Humane Society Howell Mill Rd & they can help you with the spay and place the kittens.
Clayton County Humane Society will take owner surrenders when they have space. They are often at capacity especially for cats, kittens and dogs over 20lbs. Clayton County Animal Control will take owner surrenders but you will need to contact them about their policy
You have to take it there.
Is the boxer still available
Look on petfinder, you can see all of their animals there
Sorry, I do not know of one.
No..nor does Animal Control...if u catch and put in cage Animal Control will take and Euthanize if not adopted
Dont call..take dog with u and go see them and ask if they will take and if not, could they tell u who might take the dog...they arnt open every day so Google hrs of operation at Jonesboro Humane Society...i know they are open Saturdays from 11:00 AM to 4:00 pm..bless you in your endeavors
Yes, you can do community service, but i believe you have to be 18. Call them.
Humane Soc doesn't pick up dogs...Animal Control pcks up...
I think you have to be 18
You would need tho contact a veterinary service for vet care and vaccination information for your pet.
Anywhere such as a vet or humane society. They'll scan the chip and read off the address.
The Humane Society only takes in owner surrenders and rescues from animal control after the 3 day hold is up. If your dog is lost please check with Clayton County Animal Control. I recommend you go to both animal control locations and walk through the kennels to see if your dog is there.
