Strays are required by law to be taken to Clayton County Animal Control. This rule is to give owners a chance to reclaim their lost pet. Contrary to other responses here to your question, very few animals are euthanized at Animal Control. Most animals who are not reclaimed by their owners, are made available for adoption or taken in by local rescue groups.
If you leave the dog or cat they will take it to the Clayton county aminal shelter and it will be put down in 7 days.
The best thing to do is call your local Animal Control, they will come pick up the stray and bring it to the Humane Society, which is hopefully a No Kill Facility.
