Once the best hospital and emergency room, it got swallowed into Northwell and ruined. It's party time at night here with very young staff who has absolutely no regard for the elderly. They talk like it's 3 in the afternoon laughing and playful while keeping their elderly patients awake. They allow other patients to blare their televisions "because every patient has the right to individual care", I had to call management, an actual adult who got the point that my mom was 83 and had alzheimers, to get the noise to stop. My mom usually sleeps through the night and she spent the night trying to crawl out of bed because they had no beds upstairs. I slept on a blanket in the floor once my mom went to sleep, I asked if they had any kind of lay down anything I could sleep on and they said no, they care for patients. So I asked for two chairs, again they were all being used. I'm willing to bet they have an extremely high rate of turnover as this is clearly a young party it up and move on place overnight. The day staff was much more well behaved and showed professional decorum but refused to treat my mom's ears because "impacted ears are not an emergency'. They are when you are 83, have alzheimers and are combative. We walked away from Northwell completely and haven't looked back. My mom now gets great care from Dr Pearl, an at home doctor. Northwell was booked for at home with zero opportunity to get in without knowing someone and no waiting list. My mom was hospitalized and they forgot to give her her daily meds several times and still refused to look at her ears. This whole system is large and lost. I would not trust them with myself, parents or children.

ER bathrooms are always filthy. Staff locks the doors when they are empty just so they don’t have to clean them. Security is extremely rude. Many of them carry guns so they are still on a power trip from their Ex NYPD or similar days. Now they are glorified rent-a-cops. Place is dirty in general.

I see a lot of mixed reviews on here but everyone has their own experience. Mine was my father went to Jamaica hospital all the time after his first heart attack and he kept having this chest pain and all they kept doing was giving him more pills without knowing what it was because they kept saying they could not find anything in his tests. They did not treat him well at all, Every time he went into emergency room they would leave him somewhere in the hallway. So we got a second opinion here at North Shore and as soon as we pulled up in the car they took him out of the car and took care of him. They ran tests and found a major infection on top of that he was on the verge of getting a heart attack which they helped stop. God-bless these nurses and doctors.
