What a surprising and beautiful place! Took a break from the beach to check it out on our last day in town. We spent 4 hours here and enjoyed the zoo, butterfly house and the sculptures. There was plenty of shade and areas out of the sun. Highly recommended this if you enjoy botanical gardens. The trees with the moss are totally breathtaking. The sculptures and gardens are so peaceful and beautiful. A great place to get away from the hustle and bustle of the touristy areas.

A must see when you're visiting Low County. You'll really get the feel for what the area looked like before it was developed as you walk through the beautifully maintained garden. The sculptures and artwork are spectacular and add to the depth of the garden experience. Make sure you see the butterflies when you're there, they are enlightening!

There are so many fun things to do with kids! We loved Mrs Millie! She was so informative or all of the animals and did such an amazing job capturing the attention of everyone that attended! We also did the boat ride and it was so much fun! This place is a MUST visit and has become a regular place we come to every time we’re down!
Beach LYFE Treasures
We were headed for the State park but they were at capacity so when we seen this place we pulled in and it was so lovely we opted for an annual pass. There is so much to do here we didn't even finish it all in one day. The gardens and nature trails are magical and the art installations are out of this world. There are lovely indoor galleries, a gift shop with the best honey and other nature's treasures and a really nice museum of sculptures. There are animals and historic markers to explore, smoothies at the cafe and staff are very friendly and eager to converse and inspire your return visit. We will definitely be going here a few times a month at least. Even just being here for lunch breaks from your busy day is worth the annual pass. Thankful the State park was full and we ended up here. My kiddo loves the playground and there is so much to do here even on a hot day. We visited right after the tropical storm and there was enough shade and indoor attractions to be here for a half day! 🙏🥰

Only Service Animals are allowed. For the safety of your pet and our animal collection we do not allow pets.
There is one restaurant at the welcome center and two small cafes in the garden itself
No pets are allowed at Brookgreen Gardens for their safety and the safety of our animal collection. Service Animals are welcome.
I don't think so, we never saw bikes riding the gardens.
I dont recall seeing any rentals when we were there
Yes. Coming in there is area on right before the main building/gardens.
Wheelchair accessible. They offer wheelchairs and use buses for certain tours. Beautiful place to visit and the tickets are good for up to a week.
Maybe buy the 4 tickets from groupon. It will still be cheaper than purchasing 3 individuals.
Yes with permission and appointment . there is a fee
I believe that the welcome center just as you first go in on the left. If not the keepsakes gift shop usually has them if you pay at the gate and decide to get a membership later they should apply it to the balance.
Yes we visited in February and it's still beautiful. Maybe not quite as much as when everything is blooming but even on a cloudy day we loved it because they were very few crowds.
At the gate, they are good for all week too.
I would definitely call ahead and ask you never know these days
You can also check out brookgreen.org and they show which plants are now in bloom at this time of the year.
Yes trolleys are provided and run from welcome center across property to various pick up and drop off points.
No only extra fees is boat tour and trekker tour. Trekker has a north and south tour. Both are very informative. After you park you want to go in and get a map and find out when zoo tour is.
They also have chair with wheel for senior who are not able to walk long distances not wheel looks like better and free yes for parking
If they have tickets they can come in at different times...
Rental for wedding receptions, parties & conferences.
Yes
Only in the picnic area. It has tables and restrooms. They aren't allowed in the gardens
On a few weekends leading up to Christmas, it is spectacular. Check the Brookgreen website for the specific dates as theu have been extending it since we visited. You do need to purchase tickets in advance
They usually go on sale the end of Oct or beginning of Nov. The tickets can be purchased directly from the Brookgreen website. Since 2016, tickets must be purchased by date, so know the date you want to go before ordering. This is a wonderful event, and we make an adventure of it every year. Late lunch at Drunken Jacks, Brookgreen and then a late supper at Bistro 217, then spend the night at hampton inn , then shop the local shop (General Store & Artisan Alley , Hammock Shops and the Freckled Frog) then lunch in Georgetown at the River Room then home to Charleston. A great way for delightful memories among friends!
No pets unless service dog
There is a path that leads to the labyrinth. If you head toward the boat dock, the path will be on your left just before you get to the dock. Head west on the path and you should arrive at the labyrinth.
I'm not sure what you are asking here... anyone can enter by paying the entrance fee...
I would to be on the safe side. You could always ask at the gate if you needed to take them into the gardens.
I don't think so
No just pick up tickets as you come in at the welcome center.
At times. Like right now with summer lights and the unbelievable nights of a thousand candles in the holidays. Well worth it just to see the garden in a whole different light I hate to make a pun but it's magical The highly recommend it.
I've never seen them closed on Scheduled open times except for storms like Hurricane's but I would suggest calling them for a heads up on what You are Going for like River Excursions Low Country History etc.
The tickets for the night show are not included with the day tickets, and they cost 25 for adults
Hi, the ticket for Summer Light is only for the evening event. Gates open at 7 p.m.
No, you can purchase tickets at the gate.
Your ticket is good for 7 consecutive days, I believe.
They do not have scooters available
Yes - that is the opening weekend of Summer Light: Art by Night. Check out our website for all the information!
The Night of a Thousand Candles starts at 4pm because it is a night display of lights and candles. The cost is $20 for members and $25 for non-members. Children under 3 are free and the rest are $15 for nok members. Members children over 3 $12. During regular hours they open at 9:30 and close at 5pm. There is a senior discount on regular hours. Night of a a Thousand Candles will go on this year with more nights but fewer tickets sold per night. Be sure to get your tickets early!
It depends on the level of membership https://www.brookgreen.org/membership
Definitely avoid days where there is bad weather. Most walkways are wheelchair accessible but they have some paths needing work.
According to the website, they are 11, 12, 2, & 3 for times. Price $8 adult $4 child
It is currently closed due to flooding in our area.
May it's on and popping
Lichfield Inn
You would need to ask them.
Yes they do, and with very little elevation change throughout the gardens it is easy to navigate.
No refunds only exchanges
No, but they do have a limited number of free, push from behind adult strollers.
Adult strollers as well as golf carts in h/c parking n/c either
Same time is the Masters golf tournament end of April.... if possible get there early in December for the Christmas light display it can't be beat buy tickets early
Brookgreen doesn't rent scooters, but there are a couple of businesses in MB that will rent scooters and wheelchairs and will deliver them. Brookgreen does have free push behind adult strollers available on a first come first serve basis, but they are too large to go into the inside galleries or restrooms, so they should not be considered an alternative to a wheelchair.
Nights of a Thousand Candles starts December 5!
Yes but they are only allowed on the areas where a car can go. It is fun but crossing 17 is a bit like being a squirrel.
Beookgreen Garden tickets are $18 for ages 13-64, $16 for 65+, $10 for 4-12, 3 & under free. Extra for the Butterfly House. Tickets are good for seven days as there is no way to see it all in one day. Wear walking shoes! It's beautiful, sculptures, nature and history. Plan on being there a few hours.
Seniors are $12 vs $14 but I am not sure of the age cutoff.
Adults: $14, young adult and senior citizens: $12, children 4-12: $7, children under 3 are free. Admission good for one week.
Im not sure you would have to check the website.
There isn't a cross-walk or a light. Brookgreen would love to have one, but the state of SC makes those decisions on State Highways.
There are no places to stay at Brook green gardens but there are some resorts and hotels around that area that you can stay in. The tickets are good for 7 days this place is huge and will take days to explore it all, the tickets are Admission to Brookgreen Gardens is good for seven days, adults: $14, young adult and senior citizens: $12, children 4-12: $7, children under 3 are free. They have other exhibits that cost extra like the butterfly house and the pantoon boat and other activities. 😊
It's very large. Takes 3-4 hours to see it all. 3 restaurants. Tram and parking in front and by zoo. Venue for weddings. Butterfly garden beautiful. Over 700 butterflies of many kinds, beautiful gardens in it. Huntington state park across the street with beautiful beach access. Christmas time BrookGreen has Night of a thousand candles. Worth every penny. Breathtaking.

And your ticket is good for several days!
Adults are 18 you have to check website it has great info. Totally worth it I became a member. Enjoy$18 dollars
Hi, we do have an alligator in our Lowcountry Zoo, but he is very old and well-fenced. As any open areas in coastal SC, (golf courses, community ponds, etc) there is always the chance of seeing "wild" alligators. Our ponds all have signage warning guests to stay back from the edge of the water. We also keep a close eye out for any that may wander close to a public area and relocate them as needed. We have never had a problem.
Here is a link to our Photography policy https://www.brookgreen.org/photography-brookgreen-gardens Photo sessions need to be scheduled in advance. Bridal photos are only for those who are having their wedding at Brookgreen Gardens. :-)
It's more of a walking tour experience. You will see a few statues as you enter the parking but that does not show much of the gardens. We took 2 days of walking and still wanted to see more.
It will be nice, azelaeas should be blooming.
Not that I know of..They offer wheel Chair
Hi, Nights of a Thousand Candles is our largest fund raising event during the year and is very important to Brookgreen Gardens. Especially this year, with the impact of Hurricane Florence and the flooding. We are a 501 (c) 3 not-for-profit organization and funds go to fulfill our missions of collecting, conserving, and protecting art, native plants and animals, and lowcountry history. Each year is a bit different. Guest favorites are usually brought back, but we are always looking for ways to improve and add new experiences and exhibits. Thanks for your question! Brookgreen Gardens
34 for two for 3 days
Originally Brookgreen was left to good of the public to celebrate artists, local flora, and local fauna. In order to enable this vision the gardens are currently run by a Board of Trustees and a Chief Executive Officer.
You should ask them that directly, or check there website. This on Google is for people to share their personal experience with the places that they visited. I think the ticket is good for 6 or 7 days. Place is huge with awesome sights.
You can visit their websit www.shopbrookgreen.com
All our animals are secured and we have staff that will remain on-site during the storm to check on and feed as needed. Our emergency plans are part of our Association of Zoos and Aquariums (AZA) accreditation and have always kept our animals safe and under the least amount of stress possible. Thanks for caring about our animals!
Nope
Tripods are fine during regular garden hours. We don't allow them during crowded events like Nights of a Thousand Candles. We also ask that you not set up in planting beds or block paths. Commercial photography is not allowed. You are welcome to take photographs for your personal use, not to be used for sale.
They did not have any, but had adult strollers, if you want to call it that, but a limited number and you couldn't reserve them, so when they are gone, you have to wait until someone turns one back in. The volunteer staff there is very helpful and super nice. I am sure they can help you with a quick phone call. It is a great place to spend a few hours and very handicap accessible.
We do have a military discount, $2.00 off active military and immediate family. Show your ID at the admissions plaza.
Yes in July but it is full. I do believe it is only 6th-12th grade Contact brookgreen gardens for more info
Brookgreen Gardens has no control over the installation of a traffic light. SC Department of Transportation makes those determinations on where signals are needed. We would like to have a signal there, but it isn’t our call.
We have adult and child push behind strollers. If you have an electric scooter or wheelchair, you are welcome to bring them to the gardens!
I do not know however Ms Ward did note certain dates & times.
They are starting now but another 2-4 weeks should have in full bloom. Call to confirm.
I enjoyed the gardens, the galleries, the art and the zoo. We skip the dinosaurs mainly because we didn't want to pay again.
It depends on the weather this year things are late because of the cold weather. Now crocus are in bloom, daffodils, early magnolia are ready to bloom & azaleas eill be soon. S spell of warmer weather will make things move very quickly
As far as l know
Need to call them, I think you have to have your own.
Depends on what's important to you.
Chris longden u will be ok
There are benches here and there, but I wouldn't say everywhere. It's a very well attended event so it can be difficult to find a place to sit. You can easily spend an hour to two walking through the gardens. I agree with above, I'd say it could be a mile of walking zig zag through the gardens. You can plan to eat there and that can give you some down time.
Nights of a Thousand Candles runs from Nov 30- Dec 17. I don't know how similar it would be to what you saw in NC, but it's beautiful!
