Stayed in a cabin during the week. This is a beautiful State Park. Cabins are nice and clean. Beds are a bit rough. The one trail we hiked had some beautiful views. Lots of river access. Plenty of picnic areas. We will be back for sure.

Is a nice park to spend time with your family and friends but itβs so crowded π€¨

Great place to visit.clean friendly host.

Check-in process flawed with poor directions (none) from person manning booth. Maybe our early arrival threw them off, but there is nowhere to park campers at visitor center where we picked up our entrance packet.

No. We have WiFi at the park office. Sprint cell service works and some AT&T service, no Verizon.
You should call the park and ask these questions directly so you can ask follow up questions. 540-622-6840
No. And you have to walk from the parking area to the site. We have a separate full service campground that has water and electric.
Yes, all of those and more.
You can call 800-933-7275 tomorrow to check what we have but we have been sold out for weekend camping there for weekends in October for months now. We take same day camping reservations until 2 pm on the day of arrival and I always recommend you make a reservation.
Yes down by the river making moonshine, Shhhhhh! Don't tell anyone else about it.
Only within the confines of your tent, cabin, RV, or Yurt. I work there.
Yes maam they are.
I work at the park, as long as you pay the day entrance fee and do not stay there over night you can. I would not reccomend it though as the lark is VERY dark at night and we have lots of deer and black bears. You cannot stay overnight in your car unless you have a camping reservation and are camping in an RV site only.
Some areas Flow pretty quickly But you should be able to find calm areas
Yes you do unless you are under 16. You can find the fees here: https://dwr.virginia.gov/fishing/regulations/licenses/ Be sure to scroll down to the nonresident section and it would be freshwater at this park. $8 for one day or $21 for five consecutive days.
Very sketchy. I get one bar on T-Mobile most of the time. My son gets nothing on Verizon.
No you can not, it is not permitted.
If we have camping. Find the rates here: https://www.dcr.virginia.gov/state-parks/document/feescamping.pdf Day only, $ 10 per car on weekends, $ 7 during the week
Feb 15 through and including April 30. If we have a camp host in the campground, campers can burn during restricted hours (we have a special allowance for that condition only).
8 a.m. to dusk
The fee is per passenger vehicle: $7 except for weekends from April to Oct is $10 according to their website. Larger vehicles like large vans and busses are more. If you rent a camp site, the parking fee is included in the cost.
Yes we have full service camping with electric and water sites that allow all types of camping equipment and walk-in tent sites without hookups. Very popular so reserve early.
There's plenty of room for a second car.
Consumer Cellular worked fine. No Verizon though.
Yes! Great details from some of the others who responded here.
Just electric and water. We don't add sewer to our campgrounds due to the increased development costs. We have two parks that have it - Kiptopeke and Hungry Mother (Camp Burson) because those two were previously private campgrounds.
Not in cabins. They have some in campground
Because of Hurricane Florence, there are scenarios where we may end up with downed trees or wind levels that exceed our parameters for closing but given the models I have seen and the location of the park, I'd be surprised if we had to close.
There is grass/dirt areas available as well.
There is no deadline. We leave an envelope with your name on it at the contact station. Stop there, pick up the envelope and then head to your cabin. It will have the door code in it. The envelope is sealed and there are instructions if it seems to be tampered with.
This is a great example of how dangerous crowd sourced questions on Google are since the other answer is just plain wrong. Shenandoah River and nearly all of our other Virginia State Parks have a per car parking fee unless you have handicapped plates or placards. Shenandoah River State Park is one of a handful of parks that is extremely busy on nice weekends in the summer. May 27 is Memorial Day weekend so I would expect the park to be crowded in the sense not that there are wall to wall people but that we don't have enough parking for everyone who wants to go. Since this is Sunday it might not be as bad but I would encourage you to arrive early or come late in the afternoon. You can stay as long as you want in the park. We have picnic shelters you can rent but we also have picnic tables that are available first come, first served.
Check with the park, they would know best.
Yes
We offer camping and horse trailer parking with horse trails but we do not offer equestrian camping so you can just bring your horse to ride for the day.
Yes, as long as you pick up after them have them on a leash
