This department should be dismantled; there are fewer city agencies that are serve less to the people of this city. An absolute waste of resources.

I love this place. It is very historic and big. It isn’t far from the Brooklyn bridge and the golden statue on top looks very cool.

I only rate the look of the building, and this one is wonderful. Beautiful architecture.

How can you speak to a live person from DCAS.

Lanette Reese | Oct 2, 2018
John Williams | Oct 2, 2018

You can't unless you have a direct phone number to a DCAS employee. The best way to speak to a real person is to visit DCAS in person at 1 Centre Street. But you need to know which floor to visit. For example, the 14th floor has a customer service person who will assist you with civil service exam information. DCAS prefers to contact the public by mail because decisions are made in writing (rather than in person or by phone) such as granting you a city job or not.

Apply for openings at NYC.GOV Jobs. Take and pass related Civil Exams so DCAS may pull you out of list before or after you have applied so may go straight into required 1 year probation. Visit DCAS website for exams' list and NYC.GOV.

Hello, How can I reach to the someone at DCAS to discuss probation period situation? Appreciate your reply

To Who it May Concern, I took the nypd exam but I don’t enough college credits. Can I still get employment through nypd with a probation title until I get 60 credits?

John Kim | Oct 2, 2019
Leonel Barragán | Oct 2, 2019

At their discretion you may get employed and based on your other qualifications but you must have completed the minimum requirements by hiring time. Getting jobs at NYPD are very competitive and the listing is extensive so filling spots are never a problem by qualified candidates.

I was told that I passed my exam by I was not certified. what is my recourse

You would have to speak with personnel on the 14th floor

My question is what is the best way to handle two hiring pool notices on the same day. If you miss an appointment your name will be taken off the list. Thank you

I am permanent in the title of Adm. Mgr. I need to take a break from my job because personal reasons. I have inquired about a leave of absence but my Agency is not currently holding titles. If I leave, can I come back at a later date?

Kisha Owens | Oct 2, 2018
Leonel Barragán | Oct 2, 2019

You may want to speak to your agency's HR Department first. If it's a health related leave like disability, maternity, etc. They may be able to excuse you with pay or partial pay. If a longer absence it will be unpaid and your union representation may have to negotiate terms on your behalf with supporting documentation and estimate leave and return dates. Be careful that it's not because you want to try working at another place because you will be terminated, lose all your benefits and may have to face investigations, DOI and possible charges and fines.

How can I most efficiently get personnel records from HRA for work as HRA Specialist prior to automation of records in 2014?

Sydney Johnson | Oct 1, 2020
Leonel Barragán | Oct 1, 2020

Happy Holidays / Merry Christmas! Contact HRA's Human Capital / Resources for that information. You can search HRA's website through NYC.GOV. May you get the desired results and position.

how do i get my name placed back on the list

Anthony Lewis | Oct 1, 2020
Frank Colmenares | Oct 1, 2020

You get your name put back on the list by writing a letter to the testing center who have you the test and if your eligible you will be placed back on the list. Or you can visit DCAS at 1 centre street. 21 st floor and they will answer your questions.. my suggestion is go to the facility and you can ask all the questions you want. Good luck.

David Irvine | Oct 1, 2020

You have no other ID, I assume. You should find out about maybe getting an expedited driver's license or passport. They won't let you sit for the exam without an id.

i need to get reinstated on a list...how hard is this going to be?

Kira Moore | Oct 2, 2019
Leonel Barragán | Oct 2, 2019

Gather supporting documents and visit DCAS to state your case. I heard of several people getting successfully reinstated after visiting DCAS but the more one waits the more difficult it could be because there is a time limit as to when one can use their civil service title before it expires.

My civil service title is Sup 1 S/W and my job title is Sup III, S/W. My name is on Sup II S/W list. Sup II S/W exam is scheduled for 5/2019. Does it make sense to file for Sup III S/W exam?

Landau Landau | Oct 2, 2019
Leonel Barragán | Oct 2, 2019

Yes to Sup III S/W exam if your agency cannot "mature" your Civil Service Title from II to III. If you hold a job title of Sup III, S/W they may have matured your Sup II S/W already. Don't take chances and visit DCAS in person ASAP so they may give you an accurate update before making a decision to take further exams.

I passed the civil service exam. I working for NYCHA now. How can I try to work for different city agency? What dose restore list mean?

Henry Tang | Oct 2, 2019
Leonel Barragán | Oct 2, 2019

If your civil service title is applicable to another agency you may be able to apply and get hired without a probationary period otherwise be ready to be placed on probation for at least a year check NYC.GOV for all citywide openings.

i worked for a sub contractor who was contracted by DCAS during 9/11 i signed in each day on the 11 floor is there any way i could get those records of days worked

Rich Piletto | Oct 2, 2018
Leonel Barragán | Oct 2, 2019

Visit that same floor for your records. Check the directory downstairs or ask the security guards. They are usually very helpful sending you to the right floor and agency.

Can you sign up for both a promotional exam and open competitive exam of the same title but fill out only one application on line or do you need to fill out 2 different applications?

Mitch Feder_375 | Oct 2, 2018
Leonel Barragán | Oct 2, 2019

You need to pay and fill out two separate applications for both competitive and promotional exams.

If I took a test a few years ago, but didn't take the job when I was sent a letter for it can I get my name placed back on the list? I scored mid 90's on the test (Track worker), and they are still calling names from the list.

Omar Gray | Oct 2, 2018
John Williams | Oct 2, 2018

When you decline a job, they remove your name off the hiring list permanently. You will not get the Track Worker job. However, if you contact DCAS (as someone said), they can put your name back on the hiring list. You are allowed to have your name returned to the list up to 3 times only.
