Different stores of different sizes have different things. I say check their online using stores you are willing to drive too. It will allow you to see if one is available and you can buy it and just go pick up.

With a receipt, I have returned/exchanged items that I purchased more than 3 months prior. Without a receipt, you can exchange or return item(s) at anytime, as long as they still carry the item(s). They have no clue when the item(s) was purchased without a receipt. They will give you store credit (on a Walmart Gift Card) for returns without a receipt.
