From Jeremy Ludemann, Omaha, NE: When Colin Smith answered my phone call, he probably had no idea what he was in for. I was calling from out of state, wanted to change direction in a case that had been lingering for years and the COVID-19 pandemic had just started. But he took my difficult case, which included some unethical tactics by other lawyers, and saw it through until the end. He was tenacious with the legal system and the other lawyers, but nothing but kind, compassionate and patient with me. And in the end, his fees were more than reasonable. I highly recommend Colin Smith's legal services.

Questions & Answers

Can I afford a Social Security disability attorney if I’m not working?

When you’re considering legal representation, it’s important to know that there’s usually no cost to hire a Social Security disability lawyer. You pay no initial fees or upfront expenses. In most cases, your attorney gets paid after your claim has been settled from your disability benefit award.

Why is it important to have an estate plan?

If you don’t have a Will, the state of Texas has one for you. Passing away without a will is called “dying intestate.” After you pass away, someone is going to have to probate your intestate estate, which is more involved and expensive than probating a Will. Lastly, if your retirement accounts don’t have the beneficiaries properly named, or if your estate is taxable, then your estate or beneficiaries could end up paying a lot more in tax dollars than they otherwise would.

What tax forms are required to start a business?

After your business entity is registered with the Secretary of State, you’ll need to obtain a Federal Tax ID number. This can be done online through IRS.gov. The form is called an SS-4. Once you have your Tax ID, you’ll have everything you need in order to open your business bank account. Then you’ll want to contact the Texas Comptroller’s office and register.
