In Illinois, you can't just pick up your deceased. A licensed funeral director has to take custody of the body. If you have someone in the morgue, contact your local funeral home and make arrangements

Go to their Medical Records Dept.
Speak to your funeral director. The county only performs autopsies on cases in which they have authority. Private autopsies range anywhere from 1-3k in the Chicago area.
The medical examiner's office will call the funeral home that you used to let them know when the certificate is finalized. After then you can obtain a certificate from the county clerk's office.
Go to their Medical Records Dept.
Department of public health. Some municipalities have their own but most don't. You can go to the Daley center, skokie court house, or near the courthouse in maywood.

You have to call the 312-666-0500 and ask to speak with the medical records department. They are open 8:30am to 4:30pm. There is a small fee for a copy of the report
