Very informative tour.
Aloha Stop
If you like Prison Break, this place will make you satisfied! An unmistakable atmosphere. Yes, for a maximum of 2 hours of sightseeing.

Great place to explore. So much history. We did the self guided tour and found the people working on site very friendly and helpful. Several tour options offered online for set dates. They were setting up for a Halloween Haunted Prison during our visit. 👻💀 @jwandcoryadventures

They are currently giving tours and the prison closed in 2002. You can book your tour at the Joliet historical society online. The place is being worked on to offer more access in the future but the current tours are very cool.
Yes, Prison Break, the first series episode was filmed here. In addition, movie, Let's Go To Prison and The Blues Brothers were also filmed at Joliet.
It is currently featured on Ghost Adventures because of John Wayne Gacy. Former employees are telling their experiences and the GAC team are experiencing paranormal stuff. My father was incarcerated at Joliet Prison. From my own personal experiences I can tell you that ghosts, spirits, paranormal, and evil very much do exist. It is very common in areas of mass suffering and death like cemeteries, hospitals, prisons, murder sites, sanitarium facilities, burial sites, etc.
You can get them on site at the prison. Go to the main parking lot and the gift shop is the smaller building on the left of the main prison.
There are areas where you can look inside some windows (if you're facing the prison from the street head to the very left near some cement stairs), but no legal way in-definitely not safe or worth getting arrested for. If you go to the women's prison across the street the front door isn't there. It doesn't look very safe (and is probably illegal) to go into, but you can pop your head in and see a bit of the inside.
we'll find out after the 4 part special of ghost adventures... which will air in october
I personally don't think that it's haunted but a lot of people do. I didn't feel threatened or nervous whatsoever when my husband and I took the tour.
Not sure... go to: Jolietprison.org
Tours are $20 a person
They are giving tours. But it's all outdoors. A little disappointing because we wanted to be able to gk inside a few things.
It's been owned the past couple years. They have tours https://www.jolietprison.org/about-our-tours/
Go check it out on a Saturday afternoon and volunteer some of your time, you should probably bring a case or two of Coors Light with you.
Buildings are not safe to enter according to engineers. Can look through broken windows and step 2ft. Into a couple of open doors. Signs with QR data let you look at pictures of inside. It's all outdoors. Still interesting.
Not at Joliet Prison. That was a Statesville and by Lethal Injection.
They are working on tours and such in the near future. I know you can not just go and do your own exploring. Still a lot of areas are locked off.
you have to pay the entrance fee, but they won't let you into certain areas
Opened in 1858, just six years after the incorporation of the City of Joliet, the Illinois State Penitentiary, Joliet, now known simply as the “Old Joliet Prison,” has – for better or worse been – synonymous with the City of Joliet for nearly its entire history. The Joliet Prison, with its iconic castellated gothic architecture was designed by Chicago earliest architect W.W. Boyington, who also designed the Chicago Water Tower. Clipped from the history section of the prison web page.
You can check on Google, search the website and find all the information you need
I think they are asking if someplace (729 Beeker street) is working?
Check both the Facebook pages for both of these events.
90 minute walking tour is $25, 4 hour tour for photographers is $50. Look for "Old Joliet Prison" on FB.
There were several movies filmed here including natural born killers, public enemies, and lets go to prison.
It is now haunted by my ruthless flatulence. Adam Vaughn. Paranormal exterminator. Gas em!
You cant buy tickets on site, yoy have to get tickets online.
Currently, tours are offered for Mondays, Wednesdays and Saturdays at 11:00am and 2:00pm. Go to www.jolietprison.org to purchase tickets. Tours last 90 minutes. As they get more areas stabilized, they will open more spaces. Eventually, the goal it to have general admission, but there is a lot of work to be done. Monies raised in this early time is critical to stabilization efforts. Consider becoming a member or donate. Enjoy!
There are various types of tours offered in the warmer months. It's locked up, secured and has a police presence 24/7. Security cameras were installed in the summer of 2018. Look on FB for "Old Joliet Prison" and contact the Joliet historical museum.
It isnt open to the public. If you want to go wait until the clean up project is done and its actually open.
Sort of. This is the old Joliet Correctional Center that is on the East side. Closest bridge is Ruby Street bridge about 1 mile south.
The prison has been closed for quite sometime now.
