This is a great place to visit to bird watch, look for deer, and fish. You can also learn some history about the the steamboat Bertrand. In the visitors center, is a bunch of information about the wildlife in the area and items recovered from the sunken steamboat. There are giant windows that look out over the water.

First class Visitor Center. Has a section dedicated to a Civil War era sternwheeler that sunk nearby and recovered in 1969. Nice dioramas throughout the facility.

service facilities are now open but due to Covid the hours are shortened. Check website for up to date info. Area is still beautiful and a worthwhile adventure.

Very knowledgeable and friendly staff. Great exhibits, also nice and clean.

Yes they are , you need to get there sooner than later
The migration has begun. October usually shows the huge flocks of geese.
You could release it at home if you think it’s going to survive in the wild
Yeah, last month there was a ton, but I went last week and didn't see any, but they also had some of their roads blocked off
Normally
Yes but hurry up and you can catch them before or as they migrate towards the South!
Hmm not sure
I'm not sure I mean the big scenic parts are open except the museum
Right now there is no fee for the refuge due to covid. You will need a fishing license however.
Hi Joan, there are geese arriving on the refuge today and yesterday. It will be a touch and go basis since for spring migration the waterfowl push north as soon as they can to find the best breeding areas.
Didn't see any when we were there 11-01-20
Yes.
What you need? I believe they are closed still
I was there 2/29 and there were none. Saw mergansers, golden and bald eagles and not very many.
There is no hunting of waterfowl at DeSoto. You can contact Peter Rea at 712-388-4803 for questions on hunting opportunities at DeSoto.
Yes
I'm sorry. I don't know about anything except the museum.
Usually by or around memorial day.
Yes it's open no boat's
I would say to call park rangers. I think there were talks about restrictions due to flooding.
The Army Corps of Engineers is planning flooding level releases throughout June (55000 cfs). It is not likely Desoto or Wilson Island will be open till much later in the year.
i would think not but not a 100 percent positive on that. for now if it is open then no river access for sure and Wilson island would have to be for sure Just looked it up no fishing as of march 19th 2019 FWS.gov>refuge> desoto
Due to widespread flooding, the park is currently closed.
Call and ask the rangers or the naturalist
There is a lot of geese and eagles this time of year. The park may be closed though due to eagle migration. Call ahead first to the park office.
