Questions & Answers

Do you have contact lenses for people that have corneal scarring from LASIK or other types of eye surgery?

Our optometrist, Dr. Shane Galan, provides specialty contact lens fitting that is the ideal solution for patients with Keratoconus, corneal scarring from eye surgery, and irregular corneas. These contact lenses are custom fit to the eye with very precise digital imaging of the topography of the eye. The lenses are called Scleral lenses, because they rest on the white part of the eye, the sclera, which is ideal for patients with corneal scarring as it reduces discomfort from pressure on the cornea. The Scleral lens vaults over the cornea creating a secondary optical surface to replace the irregular cornea.

Do you fit contacts for patients with severe Astigmatism?

Our Optometrist fits a variety of contact lenses for astigmatism. For patients that prefer soft contact lenses/disposable contacts, our optometrist will fit for toric lenses which are available in soft daily disposable modalities and utilize breathable materials to provide comfort. Toric lenses work by shifting automatically to align the meridians with your eye achieving better vision, as well as having different powers in different meridians. For patients with more severe astigmatism, our optometrist may recommend fitting for rigid gas permeable (RGP) lenses or Scleral lenses. These lenses bypass the need for conforming to astigmatism by creating a new more consistent surface.

Do you fit OrthoK/Orthokeratology lenses for Myopia Control?

Evan Engel | Sep 30, 2018
Evan Engel | Sep 30, 2018

Yes, our Optometrist provides orthok/orthokeratology for myopia control. Ortho K lenses are special custom-made contact lenses that act like braces, gently reshaping your eye while sleeping. Then, in the morning, the patient removes the contacts and does not need to wear glasses or contacts for the day (sometimes as long as a few days). In addition to serving as an alternative for Lasik, OrthoK lenses are crucial for kids with Myopia. High Myopia is one of the leading causes of blindness in the world, children that have high myopia are 2200% more likely to have eye diseases like retinal detachment. In order to prevent vision loss later in life, OrthoK lenses are prescribed by our optometrist to slow down the myopia progression in children.
