Look, I don't know what the problem was, but you can definitely buy just one ticket. If you are using a cell phone the problem can be the cell phone itself. In a desktop this kind of issue never happens, you can buy any odd numbers of tickets.

Shows on millennium stage are free , but all other shows on other stages need tickets.

You can bring a factory sealed water bottle up to 20oz into the theaters. If you want to bring something else to drink into the theater you must have one of their "adult sippy cups", commemorative cup with a lid. Ask one of the docents if you're not sure.

No tickets, just get yourself there (after a nice walk outside on the terrace) and enjoy the show. I've seen some wonderful performers there.

I confess that I know very little about the booking end of the music business.

When performances are scheduled the shuttle runs consistently from the Foggy Bottom metro stop (blue/orange/silver line). Most other times it seems to run every 30 minutes from the same location.

You can donate it back to the Kennedy Center. They usually send a donation receipt.

When I visited the Kennedy I saw people leaving from a performance of The Sound of a music. The men were either in suits or nice pants and button down shirts with nice shoes. The ladies were either in dresses or very nice slacks with blouses. Heels or flats for shoes. But I would personally say flats for comfort.
