We did camping here, it was fun. If you are nature loving person you will definitely love to stay here. Our camp site was next to river so we could hear the falling water sound which was best part about the place. There are no electric plug points, we were aware about it so it did not bother us. They gave picnic tables, chairs, bed, tents so it is kind of less hassle. There is no phone network at the site, so you can plan accordingly. There were plenty of bugs, spiders and earthworms, this place was in woods and next to river it is expected to have some insects, but you need to be prepared. I am not comfortable using portable loo so I was not comfortable, the public restroom closes at night so we had to use the portable loo.

Had a great time camping here for a few nights. Wanted to stay an extra night actually. The trails are pretty nice and the park has awesome views. An off-season trip here is definitely the best option. We used tentrr and had an awesome camp host.

As we headed to our cabin near the New River Gorge, we traversed the winding road and drove through Hawk’s Nest State Park. We HAD to stop at one of the overlooks because all of the Hawk’s that were nesting in the trees. It was an awesome sight. We decided to come back to the park the next and explore some of the trails. The overlook near the park’s busy center is easily accessible and has some gorgeous views. It only takes a few minutes to walk all the way around. Since we were there in the off season the tram was not running down by the lodge. So we drove down to the boat launch and walked the rail trail. The trail is 1.8 miles one way but is a pretty easy hike. We had the trail to ourselves. The creek that runs along side of the trail is beautiful and peaceful. There are some wooden bridges and amazing rock formations. I would recommend waterproof hiking boots if you want to make your way down to the water. We did and found a gorgeous waterfall. Jay be cautious because the rocks can get slick. I wish we had more time to do some of the other trails.

One of my favorite places to go!! Take a short walk down the paved path and the mountain view opens up to a wonderful viewing area. If you prefer to pack a picnic, by the guest center are several picnic tables and pavilions. There are no bad views- you're overlooking the whole valley below or nestled in a cocoon of trees!

It's an old cabin near the river. You have to walk a little, but it's worth it no doubt. Happy trails buddy
