First time at Golden Wok tonight. You walk in and you are immediately warped back into time. The decor totally reminds me of early 80's/90's old school Chinese restaurants, in an odd way it felt comforting since I grew up in my family's restaurant. I hold my dad's and uncle's cooking on a very high tier when it comes to Chinese food but Golden Wok did a pretty decent job. We ordered the dinner #3 for the 2 of us. You get soup ( I got hot and sour soup, it was decent. The original Jade's Chopsticks made the best hot and sour soup, hands down!), appetizers of crab rangoons (it had too many white onion pieces in it in my opinion), mu shu pork, mandarin chicken, shrimp with pea pods and special fried rice. Let me tell you, you get a lot of bang for your buck! You get pretty hearty sized portions of each dish. There was enough food for a 3rd person, the portion sizes are great. It's amazing how many Chinese restaurants in town can screw up mandarin chicken but their mandarin chicken was legit, so good! Chicken was crispy and the right amount of sauce, not downed in sauce. Servers were nice, they were attentive and filled our beverages often. My only complaints are they dropped our bill off 10 minutes after we got our main courses. Makes you feel like you need to leave instead of actually enjoying your food when the bill is dropped off while your starting your main dishes. I also found it tacky that they conversed about how much people tipped them in front of guests. That was a big no no when I worked for my family. Honestly, Golden Wok is a cool little local Chinese joint Boise should support. They are hella busy with to go orders. We will be back to try their vegetarian menu.
