A beautiful place to start a hike with different directions to take that vary in length and terrain. Horse-friendly, dog-friendly, and people-friendly.

Open area trail exposed to the sun that would be very hot during the summer. If you are a horse or bike rider, this is a good place with the open trails. There are side trails that will take you along the river. You are better off going to nearby Greenwood Creek River Access that has a small parking lot with an easy trail to the river.

Lots of parking. Has two pit toilets. Access the Gerle Loop, American River or Cronan Ranch area. Gerle Loop is great for kids learning to ride a bike in the dirt and the whole area is fun to hike with the family. It even stays shady in the summer. I don't ride horses but this area is popular with equestrians as well.
