Beautiful trail, tons of climbing opportunities for the kids. Pets on leash are welcomed! Wear comfortable shoes and bring water. There are plenty of shady spots and benches to rest.

We went on this trail the day after Labor Day. It was a little busy yet we still found parking. It was a nice trail with lots to see. We lucked out and encountered a bear at the beginning of our hike. It was exciting yet a little scary. The General Sherman Tree contains more wood in volume in its trunk than any tree on earth.

Must-do trail to visit the largest tree in the world by volume! Paved, 1.2 miles roundtrip if starting from the main trailhead. Steep on the way back (212 foot elevation change) but well worth the effort! Some stairs but do-able with a stroller. Benches along the way. Flush restrooms and free parking available at trailhead. No pets. ADA accessible parking available in a different parking lot much closer to the General Sherman Tree. This amazing Giant Sequoia tree has an estimated age of 2200 years! Wow!

Very busy trail but worth it

Two trails lead to the Sherman Tree. Parking for the Main Trail is off the Wolverton Road (between the Sherman Tree and Lodgepole); just follow signs. The trail runs half a mile (0.8 km) down to the tree. It has a few stairs and is paved. As you walk, you'll enter the Giant Forest sequoia grove. Exhibits along the trail explain the natural history of giant sequoias. The walk back is uphill.
Some of the nearby redwoods were badly burned and may not survive. It will make you cry to see them.
