Tia was great. Explained everything and did not make you feel defensive like some offices. Great job.

Easy peasy process. Kellie S was awesome! Very friendly and helpful. I called later and got another very helpful, patient person, as well. In and out quickly.

VERY RUDE & UNPROFESSIONAL! I have had the displeasure of having to call the Mecklenburg County Register of Deeds a couple of times, Each time I get a rude & hostile woman last name Scarborough. She cuts you off, makes smart comments, tells you to go online next time instead of calling and hangs up on you.

Instead of removing my Assumed business name, they made the name twice and charged for it. I asked 3 times did she remove the name.

appointment/reappointment letter and $10 fee
No
You have to draft a Quit Claim Deed, have the other party sign in front of a notary and file the document at the register of Deeds
Hello I work in this building you can do a walk in just make sure to wear a mask it's required.
You do not need an appointment to my understanding, hours are 8:00am to 4:30pm. However, to be sure you can call the Register of Deeds.
Hello Carla. It can be cash or money order.
If the notary es from Mecklenburg County, yes.
The office is on 4th Street.
State issued I'd ssn card
If you both have social security cards you need them and an ID with a photo. If you don't have a social security number then you need a notarized statement stating that you don't have a social security number. If you're under 21 they need a birth certificate but it doesn't need to be translated. You can get the marriage license on the same day you apply, but it's not valid for 24 hours. So you could get married the next day. They have a notary on sight incase you need the statement saying that you don't have a social security number. It's not a difficult process, my husband is Mexican and we had to do that when we married.
No. They are open from 8:30AM to 4:30PM
Great question! Unfortunately our public buildings are not easily accessible. There is a parking deck with handicapped spaces at the corner of 4th and McDowell but it's still a hike to get to the register of deeds building. There is on-street metered parking closer by where you could get into the building from the street without steps. There is also a public deck at the corner of 3rd and Davidson. None of these choices are optimal.
