Walk this park about 3 times a week. Nice and cool and about 3.5 miles round trip. Can't wait for the new walks to open.

The tennis courts are great but the hours are too short. They need to leave the gate open longer for the people that have jobs. The trails are really nice, though; surprisingly nice actually. A good majority of it is shaded so the sun does not beat down on you the whole time. Just be prepared with but spray. I will say that the railing in the newly paved river walk is something you would not expect on a public, high traffic area. Your backyard patio, sure. The inconsistency and variation of post types makes it look super cheap and poorly thought out. Not sure who won the bid for that contract but back to the drawing board Hickory. Hopefully it's not the company that was responsible for the useless arches downtown.

You can park at the recreation center and enter the paved trails at the front or you can park down by the lake and enter the trails at the front of the parking lot, opposite the entrance.

Great trails. Beginners and advanced with a pump track and jump trail.
They are open all year round. The tennis courts and restrooms stay open until dusk. The paved walking track is also open until dusk as well. There are several dirt trails though that they do close off when it rains so the bikes don't tear up the trail.
