This is the only boathouse in NYC that employs river guides and instructors for kayaking and paddle boarding. They are not volunteers. The paddlers who I have talked to agree this is the most safety-conscious place and yet satisfies their curious minds and adventurous spirits. If you are a total beginner, they will train you from the ground up and make you surprise yourself, if you follow through. Even I went from ground zero to the 30-mile Manhattan Circumnav Trip on a sea kayak then on a paddle board. I even kayaked from Manhattan to the Atlantic Ocean to watch whales and dolphins. If you are already a seasoned paddler, you got your peeps here. There are people who compete in races and do paddle camping together…including from NYC to Miami, circumnavigating Long Island, Iceland, Australia, and the full lengths of the Hudson River, Mississippi River and Erie Canal. It's a very inclusive and supportive community. From what I have seen, the accomplished paddlers are the most humble. They listen and do the work. If you have no experience, not to worry. Beginners join different trips than the advanced people. If you are barely keeping up, the guides help you. When people hang out here, they bond because they love the same thing, which is being on water. That’s the bond. People here becoming besties, they support each other, and they know the power of nature and natural waters.

We booked a private tour. Everything went great. First we had a short introduction, after that we were allowed to go on the water. You had a nice view from there. We recommend

This was my first rodeo with kayaking and I must say I had an amazingly awesome time. Can't wait until next year!!

Had the most wonderful experience at Manhattan Kayak this afternoon. The weather was perfect and the people working there were unbelievably helpful. This place rocks!

There are many free places on the Hudson for kayaking in a small space for 20 minutes. This is a different place. They do adult and kid lessons and scenic tours like night kayaking. There are kayaking and stand-up paddleboarding rentals (dogs go too!) You learn the proper techniques to go to places like Statue of Liberty, and to get exercise outdoors and meet people. People pay to reserve their seats on the schedule for all those goings on.
Yes, there are lockers to store your stuff while you go out
