Yes that works if you are close to the F train. The FMDACE all run on the weekend to west 4th.
Stay on C train Monday to Sunday , A train after 10:30 at night or B train (weekday) goes to 8th ave 72 st. as close as Broadway 72 st. It means after you get of the train and walk to your destination.

To exit from the BDFM train yes, to exit from the ACE trains there is a ramp on the west 4th street exit... stairs to the street. The is an elevator also on the west 4th street exit to the street.
