Friendly and helpful, considering adoption of a young kitty! So many cool animals and choices, I know I will find the right one for us there! Plus saw a Sheriff K9 demo as they worked with the kids at a camp! Awesome!

Severely misrepresented the dog we were interested in. Said he was friendly and loving and huggable. Many hours of messaging about our needs and needs of the dog to ensure a match. After driving over an hour with my entire family to meet what what was supposed to be a good match, we met a dog with none of the qualities stated. My kids were crying and our family is disappointed.

My husband is currently the Director of Animal Care for AWL. They will rent out traps if they are available and will take in feral cats. Unfortunately the county does not allow the shelter to TNR cats however they do not euthanize cats for being feral. Feral cats are placed under their Barn Cat program and are adopted out as working/barn cats to various land owners and businesses. Their Barn cat program has been very successful recently!
There will be a clinic at Animal Welfare League on August 24th from 12-3pm. All dogs and cats welcome :)
The shelter strives to find a proper place for every animal, trying to do what is best for the animals that come into our care while also being sure they are safe. Of course, we try to find them placements as soon as possible, whether it is in a new home or with a rescue since the shelter is never the ideal place for an animal. However, we will keep animals as long as it takes to find them a home as long as they are healthy and safe. One sweet dog waited almost three years for the perfect home, but she found it and couldn't be doing better. That is an unusual case but the happiest ending.
There are no public veterinary services at AWL. For low cost vet care in the area, see Spay Now. And for severe injuries seek emergency veterinary care in either Easton or Annapolis.
