This bakery is now on my list of 'must stops' when I'm in Bishop. Main reason? Their vegan oat chocolate chip cookies! Super good and totally hit the spot after a few days of backpacking in the Eastern Sierra. I got a loaf of the multi-grain bread as well but that was nothing special - next time I'll try out their sourdough. They have quite the selection of baked goods!

I used to live in the area and I can say they are a secure facility because I got locked in the bathroom a few years ago and long story short, I got a free GB meal from my boss from the adjacent store owner. Anyways, I always looked forward to Great Basin's cookies, pies, and breads. I love their Asiago Sourdough! sandwiches are also good but I just really love the bread and cookies. I try to support the local shops so I usually would get my sandwiches from Pupfish Cafe to share the local business love. please also try the rhubarb pie and lemon or cowgirl cookies.

Whenever I travel I try to locate the best bakery/coffee shop. Living in Portland I am surrounded by great options.. In Bishop this is it...Amazing bakery. Sourdough breads, sandwiches, bagels, croissants! Great for vegetarian options:-) Highly recommended!

Great little bakery with really good sandwiches in Bishop. Perfect alternative to the other, more well-known bakery in town. Freshly baked breads and bakery goods. Small inside, so best for take out.

The bakery has operated safely since the beginning of the pandemic. All staff and customers are required to wear masks, our restrooms are for staff only at the moment, and while we have limited outdoor seating, indoor seating is not permitted. Our strict policies ensure that sick employees remain at home and that frequent sanitizing is occurring. During busy times you may be asked to wait outside to prevent overcrowding inside the small cafe. Curbside is available by request by phone or online.

Can you freeze your cookies? If so, how long will they last, til Christmas?

Margaret Wagner | Feb 16, 2020

Not sure about cookies that are already baked? I would think the texture would change after defrosting, like crumbly. But the Basin does sell frozen homemade cookie dough and pies. Last year we bought ginger bread cookie dough and several apple pies. Follow the recipe instructions and both come out perfect.
