We enjoyed a cannon firing exhibition. They do this every Memorial Day, 4th of July and Veteran's Day weekends at 2 pm.

Went to the Visitor’s Center on Wednesday, March 30th at about 4:10 and it was closed. NPS website clearly states that their hours are 9 to 5. There were cars in front of what can be assumed to be employee housing though. We weren’t the only car that pulled in either. Disappointed travelers for sure that wanted to see some NE history.

Interesting piece of history and a nice walk around for a not terribly expensive fee. However the exhibit does seem a little off topic and a bit haphazardly put together. Worth a stop if already in the area

The visitor center at Fort Kearny state historical park serves as a crane information center. The cranes have to be viewed near the river. Fort Kearny state recreation area has a footbridge to view them.

Not sure about next summer, but the visitor center was open daily 9am-5pm from memorial day to labor day last year.

You cannot camp at the State Historical Park, but you can at the Fort Kearney State Recreation Area that is a couple of miles away. Camping there facilitates RVs.
