First time here and the river was beautiful. Not cold but just right. Get there early and grab a great spot in the river.

THE BEST dispersed camping we've been to so far. We got lucky and no one was there for most of the week. Very bumpy in the first parking area and lower level that is flat. We stayed at the first turn in and drove to the corner by the trees and you can see right down to the river only about 20ft away! Plenty to see and explore, the sound of the river, majestic mountains, and occasional fighter jets throughout the day. Windy at night but very worth visiting. We had zero cell service but we also have straight talk. Just a warning lol a hidden gem if you ask me. Van life approved!

If you arrive first you have the right to the best place and you do not have to pay anything
The Calkin Flats Dispersed Area is free believe or not. There are other sites nearby that charge, but the Flats have nothing to envy.
