We had an awesome time here yesterday. Having tried to break rock in the past it was so much fun to have material for us to sift. Price is very fair. They work hard and employ local kids. We got a great black tourmaline specimen as well as a great beryl. We will be back. They know their rocks and gems and are glad to share that with you. Though small, we got some beautiful green tourmaline and watermelon in situ.

We visited Dig Maine Gems for the first time this past Thursday and loved it! The staff were really friendly, tables were clean, prices reasonable, and the overhead tents kept us dry during the rain! We bought two of the World Traveler …

We went on a Sunday. Went up to Mt. Mica and spent the day digging. Found lots of small things. Too expensive in my opinion for the experience. Better off buying a bucket.

Our hours change with the seasons and heavily depend on the time of year, so we recommend checking the main page of our website (www.digmainegems.com) as that will always have our correct and up to date hours. As for bucket prices we offer a $15 "Dig Your Own" bucket from our Mt. Mica pile, and also $25, $50 and $100 pre-filled "Specialty" buckets with extra goodies in them.

What rock shops are open in February?

Though we dont have much of an online store (yet! It is still in the works but should be up and running soon) you can still purchase dirt from us! Just give Jody a call at 207 890-9753 for info on dirt. Other rock shops in our area that you can visit include Creaser Jewelers in South Paris, and the Mineral Collector in Bryant Pond. Also the Maine Mineral and Gem museum in Bethel is now open to the public, however there is a $15 fee to enter. It is definitely worth it though!

Just wondering if this is strictly bucket prices or can you just dig at the sight. We are visiting from Michigan and currently are in Maine?

You pay by the bucket unless you go on one of their site excursions on Sunday. One bucket can easily take you a couple hours to go through so I am sure you can do as many as you want to pay for and as often as you want.
