What can I use to keep birds from nesting in the awning bar attached to the house each year It is ruining the awning fabric

I have used a product called Bird B Gone. It comes in a tube and is applied using a caulking gun on the back awing support. The product will not harden and the birds don't like it. Reapply each year. Purchase it on Amazon or Home Depot might also stock it. Also, some owners use noodles about 3 ' on either end of the back support bar. You might have to open the noodle up more with a razor knife . Be careful using the razor knife
