We were extremely impressed with Comfortmaster. They were very responsive and kept in contact with us leading up to our appointment. Anthony was very knowledgeable. He was able to show us what was going on with our system and repair it quickly. He was up front about pricing at every step which let us make informed decisions about our repairs.

As a customer of almost 20 years I'm happy to recommend Comfort Master and their excellent service. The staff are all knowledgeable, efficient and respectful. Once we used an alternative company to install a replacement HVAC system because they were half the price. Company was nationally known but contracted out with regional independent techs. What a mistake! System only lasted 5 years (vs. 10) substandard parts and reused old duct work. Annual maintenance was poor. Getting someone to repair a problem was a hassle. You get what you pay for. Never again! We're back for good, Comfort Master!

I couldn't be more pleased with the service from Comfortmaster. With timely responses and knowledgeable conversations with Sue, it was a totally enjoyable process to set up the purchase and installation of our new AC system. Regarding the installation crew, they were professional, punctual, courteous, and completely thorough in inspecting and insuring the new system's working components before they left. And they left the house in immaculate condition. If you need AC service, you can't go wrong with Comfortmaster.

Questions & Answers

I spend over $3000 a year on oil for heat and hot water. I suspect our house it not tightly insulated. Do you do heat loss / home insulation efficiency assessments?

Dino Tonelli | Sep 23, 2019
Comfortmaster Heating & Cooling Services | Sep 23, 2019

We do heat loss, and heat gain calculations for determining the correct size of heating and cooling systems. We do not perform house insulation assessments, or home energy audits. If you go to https://stars.nyserdagreenny.org/ you can find an authorized NYSERDA contractor to do an audit, and many times there are incentives that reduce the cost of the audit for homeowners who use a certified contractor. Thank you for the question.

How does someone decide whether to go with on-demand tankless hot water vs a traditional hot water heater?

Dino Tonelli | Sep 23, 2019
Comfortmaster Heating & Cooling Services | Sep 23, 2019

There are pro's and con's to consider. On-Demand Water Heaters 1) are more efficient than most other methods available, 2) due to their compact size and wall-mount configuration they are a great space saver, 3) they have the ability to provide continuous and unlimited volumes of water. As for the downside 1) They can cost considerably more to install, maintain, and repair than a conventional water heater. In fact, many times the payback in energy savings may not be realized before the unit needs replacement, 2) Poor water conditions drastically reduce the longevity, and increase the maintenance costs 3) availability of parts for future repairs typically take a few days to attain since they must be ordered from the manufacturer in most cases, 4) Each brand uses proprietary technology which means troubleshooting can be challenging for technicians, and may require assistance from the manufacturer which do not have 24 hour technical support. I hope this helps.

What is usually done on a yearly maintenance central air conditioning unit

Cathy Wassil | Sep 23, 2019
Comfortmaster Heating & Cooling Services | Sep 23, 2019

Great Question Cathy, While it may vary from company to company, typically the most common maintenance tasks for a central air conditioner is a light rinse of the indoor and outdoor heat transfer surfaces, flushing the drain pan and drain pipe of the indoor unit, inspecting all the electrical components and connections, inspecting the ductwork connections and insulation, and testing the operation of the system in all modes of operation. If however, the units has not been well maintained, more extensive cleaning may be required, involving cleaning chemicals and high pressure spray cleaning.

Do you convert oil to gas ?

Lisa Devenuto | Sep 23, 2019
Comfortmaster Heating & Cooling Services | Sep 23, 2019

Hi Lisa, yes we do. There are many things to consider, and many reasons why homeowners may want to convert from one fuel to another. Before deciding to make the switch, it's a good idea to schedule a survey with heating professional to discuss important aspects to consider about such a project, as well as what your are looking to achieve from the conversion. Thank you for the question!

Hello , my question is also a concern of ours , our homes furnace and air conditioner is about 12 years old and we are wondering about it’s its life expectancy , how long do they normally last ? , thank you

Frank Donaldson | Sep 23, 2019
Comfortmaster Heating & Cooling Services | Sep 23, 2019

That's a great question Frank. While there is no definitive answer that covers all situations, the short answer is that the average lifespan of central furnaces and air conditioners is approx.15 years. As long as the parts are still available for your system, there is no limit to the amount of repairs that can be made, however there comes a point of diminishing return, where the money would be best used towards a new system. The top four factors to consider, which accelerate or prolong the decision for replacement, are 1) how well the system provides comfort to your home, 2) its current condition and if costly repairs are needed, 3) the history of system reliability and your tolerance for breakdowns, and 4) the energy savings of a new higher efficiency system. While there are other factors to consider, its best to seek an in-home evaluation and survey from a comfort specialist who will help you determine if this is the right time for replacement. I hope this helped!

What's the benefit for having a maintenance contract on my heating/air conditioning units?

Comfortmaster Heating & Cooling Services | Sep 23, 2018
Comfortmaster Heating & Cooling Services | Sep 23, 2018

There are many benefits included in a maintenance contract. Annual maintenance is a key factor in saving energy, reducing costly repairs, and extending the life of your heating or air conditioning system in the Hudson Valley. It will ultimately save you money in the long run, and keep you the most comfortable. If your HVAC system is running at top efficiency you will save money on energy bills. Having a qualified technician inspect your system a few times per year means you can also identify issues while they are still small and easy to fix, rather than waiting until they damage your system or become expensive. You also have multiple options when choosing a maintenance plan with ComfortMaster.

How often should I replace my air filter on my central air conditioner? Also I noticed there are different types of filters available - is it worth spending the extra money for the pleated or electrostatic filters?

Comfortmaster Heating & Cooling Services | Sep 23, 2018
Comfortmaster Heating & Cooling Services | Sep 23, 2018

The frequency for replacing your air filter will depend on the filter type used, and whether or not your system is only heating or only cooling, versus a system that provides both heating and cooling, which runs all year long. As for the different filter types: a more expensive filter will usually do a better job catching smaller particles, but can be too restrictive for your heating/cooling system fan. Its best to talk to your service provider for advice on your specific situation. Better filters can improve your indoor air quality, but if its too restrictive it will reduce your system capacity and increase your energy use. In most cases, its best to use a simple fiberglass air filter and replace it every 30 days of operation. I hope this helps.
