This tour is a steal for only $3. I had to tip extra after my experience because this place really deserves it. The tour guide is so kind and informative. You can tell she really cares about the stories she tells and the people she talks about. Really special place, and all the furniture belonged to the original owners.

My adult girls and I enjoy touring historical homes in the Central valley and this was one of the best! Our guide unfortunately did not give us her name but she was extremely knowledgeable and easy to listen to and did a great tour at the house! I would highly recommend going here. It was a fun day out! Now go get your snacks for a quick drive to porterville 😊

Yes, isn't that cool they came to porterville to see the zalud house?!
Enjoy! Lots of history!
Yes it is. There are three known ghosts. There is Ed Zalud, who was killed in an *accident* when a horse kicked him in the head. Some sources say it was murder though, due to him cattle rustling. Then there is Peral Zalud. She was the last to live in the house and died there. She is also the one that donated the house to the city. Last, but not least is William "Bill" Brooks. He was shot at the Pioneer Hotel after his wife (Peral's sister) found out he was having an affair. She was tried and found not guilty. The chair (with two bullet holes in it) that Brooks was sitting in are in the upstairs master bedroom.
It'll be there until Jeff Edwards takes it back. I doubt Uncle Jeff will ever be doing that.
The Zalud family until Peral died in the early 1970's. It was never sold outside of the Zalud family.
The chair in which William Brooks was fatally shot is still on display in the museum.
Ask the ghost society of porterville.
