9.27.21 parking was easy because a weekday but on the weekends it gets busy. Very quiet area with a wide path. Folks can bike, walk, run etc.

Great place! Gravel path for an easy walk or bike ride with gorgeous scenery. But the hiking trails off the path were great, definitely a place I will be hiking again

Reading in wikipedia, yes. From the bike path there is no evidence (except for the narrowness & height of the trail).
A regular street bike is fine on Airline Trail, most of which is compacted stone dust. Some areas are sandy, but as long as you are not cruising at top speed you should be fine. If you want to get new tires get the hybrid size.
Going north you can go at least to Willimantic or you can branch off and end up in downtown Colchester.
