This is a wonderful organization with terrific people volunteering to keep everything up. A special place with real historic buildings and grounds. There are also lots of small town activities to enjoy. People even have wedding parties on the lawn. Keeping local history alive is important and there are many folks working hard to keep Beaufort’s alive.

Did the double-decker bus tour. The entire crew was excellent. Paul “Hollywood” was our guide and he was the best tour guide I’ve ever had. He was hilarious and every tidbit of information was interesting. The tour was 45 minutes long. Highly recommended!

We went on the London double-decker tour bus. Our driver Fritzie is a volunteer and was outstanding, maneuvering down the narrow streets and turns. Our tour guide and narrator was exceptionally knowledgeable with a very calm and articulated voice (The guy with the gray shoulder-length hair). Wonderful tour of beautiful downtown Beaufort.

Took the trolley tour. Super hot. No A/C. Tour guide didn't know his left from his right. Stopped for too long at each site. Didn't know the answers to some questions.

The outer banks are the protective sandbar islands, such as Shacklford Island and from Cape Lookout up to Ocacroke, Hatteras, Nags Head, Kitty Hawk, Duck and Carolla. Beaufort is inside that and is not an island.
Beaufort historic site is free as is the NC Maritime Museum. Both great visits & friendly knowledgeable staff. Highly recommended!
