The outer banks are the protective sandbar islands, such as Shacklford Island and from Cape Lookout up to Ocacroke, Hatteras, Nags Head, Kitty Hawk, Duck and Carolla. Beaufort is inside that and is not an island.

I would say that it's in the general region of the Southern Outer Banks (SOBX) but because it's not an island, it's not a 'bank.'
