My experience has not been very good. It started last year and approved for work on my home in May 2021 and completed (according to them in May 2022). The man that started the work passed away in Sept 2021 from COVID, I believe. I have two toned colors on my house. Some of the other work is good, but I feel I was humiliated for having to ask for help by one of the men by him saying I should be more appreciative by what had been done when I said something about the colors of paint. It was not what the first guy and I picked out. No one should be made to feel bad because of their status in life. The people that come out to people's homes need to be trained in dealing with people of all communities and status.

No apartments. They either build you a new house or fully renovate an old one

Apply to your local Habitat affiliate. They take applications in January, usually. Then there are assessments of ability to be a good candidate. If accepted, there are classes and "sweat equity" of about 300 hours of work on houses or in Habitat programs. When you have saved money for the down payment, completed your hours, then when your own house is finished being built, you can get a low- or no-interest mortgage for your own home.(depends on local Habitat which way they structure the porgram.)
