A nice swimming hole for the day and one of only areas to enjoy the water locally.

Gorgeous views, some of the best in the Shawnee Forest! You can climb all the way to the top of the spillway also. You can do it along the rock face, or via the informal support trail along the north edge of the ascent as well. At this location there is a large parking lot with picnic tables and bathrooms, which are probably locked.

So it's pretty dry at the moment but that makes it easier to explore, especially for the little ones. You can literally walk all the way up to the dam and swim. It's shallow where you enter the water. You can fish at the bottom of the spillway, and when it's low like this you can literally walk around the entire pool at the bottom.

There were a couple picnic tables to sit at and give you a most refreshing beautiful view! Have a picnic lunch there most definately!
You can hike a rugged path along side of the spillway falls to the dam where the swimming is great. During heavy rain the trail may be flooded.
You can camp on the other side of the lake but it's about a 15 min drive from the marina to the spillway its self. Id suggest going to the Kincaid cliffs insted the spillway is kinda gross
So is it a long walk to get to the lake where you can swim? Im wanting to know if its an ok place to take kids. Is it sandy or rocky? Thanks!
Basically just get out of your car in the parking lot and it's really right there to adventure on! Fun but be careful as always.
It was about a month back but I am pretty sure it receded now.
Yes there is an area up the rocks you can play in. I personally haven't been back since it was flooded.
I'm sure there were snakes around, but we were there for almost 4 hours and never seen one on land or in the water. We hiked along the trail and climbed the rocks all the way to the top of the falls. The flow of the water is moving very fast. We even swam in the pond at the bottom of the falls. The water is not cold at all, it was actually quite warm.
I'm pretty sure its open everyday
