9/15/22: New rating 3.5 stars. I got a call from Dr. Pilkenton to discuss the appetite stimulant results from the last 48 hours. She reassured me that I'm doing right by Maxx and gave me a week-long plan. I'm still hopeful for Maxx. 9/14/22: Due to relocating within city limits, I wanted to choose a different vet for my 5 year old Maltipoo, Maxx. After researching a few clinics and seeking recommendations from colleagues living in the area, I chose Beaches Animal Clinic. I specifically wanted Dr. Stephanie Pilkenton because of their focus on anxiety/stress. Parking is limited so be prepared to choose alternate locations if it's full. The waiting room is clean but can get loud as there's no sound buffer on the walls nor any privacy at the front desk. I arrived on time and waited another 10 minutes before being seen. Brit, vet tech, was courteous, pleasant and professional. I had a few concerns to discuss but she took her time to make note of them all. She reviewed the records I gave from my last vet. The room was clean with no fur/hair in sight. Maxx has anxiety and stress that affects him on a daily basis. He's not food motivated, which means giving meds is extremely challenging. When the doctor arrived, they were professional and pleasant. They listened to everything that I had questions or concerns about. Ultimately, we both agreed on fluoxetine (Prozac) to help with his anxiety. The doc also said this would help with his anxiety including his eating. He had an yeast infection in his ear and they prescribed treatment for that. I again expressed concerns about my ability to consistently give the Prozac due to his extremely low desire to eat. But they didn't offer any NEW suggestions (only those I already tried) to get him to eat. Despite feeling like I didn't get a satisfying solution for his eating challenges, I was hopeful. Unfortunately, after the first day of giving him Prozac, Maxx didn't eat for 2 whole days. Even his chicken jerky treats didn't seem to appeal to him. This meant I couldn't give him Prozac. This was a problem because the doctor said that most of my concerns and issues should be resolved with him taking this med. Also I specifically asked the doctor if I could use Chewy for his meds and they flat out told me "no, this is a regulated drug and we can only dispense it for you." I found out later on that this was not true (aka lie). Of course, I was very frustrated about this. And it didn't help that I paid $500 for a wellness visit, ear culture and 3 meds. A few days later I get a call asking how Maxx is doing. I expressed frustration that Maxx was prescribed an anxiety drug that requires he eat despite them not helping me with his lack of desire in eating. My call was transferred to the doctor and they agreed that he needed an appetite stimulant. Hmm, why wasn't this offered to me on the initial visit? I asked if I could fill this at another pharmacy. The doctor said No, it has to be filled with them. This time I knew better and said that that's weird because every other vet clinic I've used has no problem with me using Chewy or giving me a prescription. The doctor literally did a 180, saying "sure if you want me to write a prescription, I can do that, it's not a problem. But with this drug you can't get it at a normal pharmacy because it's only for animals." I understood that but now this doctor on 2 different occasions flat out said I couldn't use Chewy or another pharmacy. Why in the current economy, would you not want clients to have access to something that easier on the wallet? Or reassure us that we can choose other pharmacies? I decided to fill it with them so that I could get it immediately. All of this has left a sour taste in my mouth. I don't like being lied to. It's so hard to find vet doctors that aren't about $$$ and truly want to help you and your babies. Maybe I could try a different doctor in the practice. I will keep this rating updated if my future experiences improve, remain the same or get worse.

We have gone to beaches animal clinic for years now for both of our dogs. Dr. Daniel and Dr. Ramirez are the best. We got a 2nd opinion on one of our dogs and ended up spending a lot of money somewhere else only to determine they were right all along. We highly recommend!

Yes! Agreed and when we place our very next order, I will do just that. The website is being overhauled as I type and it too will have the # on there. BTW, my name is Colleen Nevitt and I joined the practice recently as the previous Practice Manager retired. So, thank you VERY much for the feedback:) and thank you for your kind words.

The best way to ask a medical question would be a call us directly, since we would not be able to answer medical questions in such a public forum, as patient privacy is important to us. It was a pleasure talking with you earlier.
