Where to begin with this place?! The service was absolutely amazing. Our waiter was funny, informative and just genuinely enjoyed his job. The bartender in the ghost bar was the same way! So polite, quick with our orders and had so much to say about the place. The aesthetic is elegant but welcoming. And the FOOD! Oh the food was excellent. The pecan crusted walleye was some of the best damn walleye I've ever had. The half chicken was flavorful, juicy and big enough to feed me for 2 days! The veggies that came with it were done perfectly. The carrots were naturally sweet and the asparagus had the perfect amount of crunch to them. Truly cannot wait to go back!

The beautiful Whitney mansion makes for a amazing dining experience! The grandeur of it all, from the tapestry to the molding. The staff are witty and accommodating. The portion size of every option is filling. Although I enjoyed the carrot cake, I would have thought they would have come with something a little bit more imaginative. The atmosphere calls for a more tantalizing dessert.

We celebrated Valentine's Day here. At $99 per person before gratuity or drinks, it's not cheap. For that price it includes a four course meal. Soup/salad, the appetizer trio shown in the photo, an entree, and then a dessert. For fine dining, it's really not that much more expensive given all the food it includes. It was hands down the best meal I've EVER had. Totally worth the money. I'll surely be coming back for special events

I went for the birthday special. It was soooo nice! The food was good and so was the service. The mansion is beautiful. Can't wait to go back. On site parking is $10 and dining is expensive but worth it.

Does The Whitney enforce a Dress Code? We recommend Business/Country Club casual attire. The Whitney does not require jackets for gentlemen, but we do not allow flip flops, sneakers, athletic wear, ball caps or tattered jeans. Gentlemen are asked to wear collared shirts with sleeves and check their caps when dining in the mansion. Ladies... no athletic wear, sweatshirts, sneakers or ball caps https://www.thewhitney.com/faq
Yes but may be some stairs involved, the elevator was broken when we were there months ago.
Yes. Just got my wife pregnant on the second floor
I waited by the ghost bar for about 20 minutes for our table and didn't see, feel or hear anything odd. It's a beautiful building. I'd go for the architecture and art alone. Definitely glad I was able to experience it.
Definitely, id feel out of place not dressed up
Shouldn't have to make a reservation for the ghost bar
Besides valet parking and street parking, Wayne State has two parking structures nearby that are open to the public. One is $7, not sure about the other but cheaper.
You can get one online, it can either be emailed to the person it's for or you can send it to yourself and you can print it out. I think you can pay like $3 to have an actual card mailed too
Yes. Call in advance though. Had my mom's 75th birthday brunch and they made it amazing
Yes. We captured an entity in a picture when we were there. Ghost Hunters did a segment there
According to Wikipedia: Dating back to the renovations in the mid-1980s, there have been rumored occurrences of supernatural activities on all three floors of the Whitney house. The causes of these events have been linked to the story of David Whitney Jr. and his wife both dying inside the mansion.[12] To this day, some people believe that the ghost of David Whitney Jr. haunts the Whitney mansion. One of the most haunted areas in the house appears to be the elevator.[12][13] There are reports of the elevator moving on its own between the floors without any passengers. Other unexplained apparitions have been reported on the second and third floors. One evening at closing, a staff member witnessed an older gentleman gazing out of the second floor dining room window; when he was asked to leave, the figure simply vanished into the floor.Reports by the mansion's staff members of sounds of utensils being stacked and table settings being moved all on their own, have only added to the mystry
Honestly one of the coolest places in Detroit. The fact that all the wood was hand carved and the history alone makes it worth the trip to see but the people who work there are fantastic! We went for the Thanksgiving brunch so we could watch my daughter March in the parade and honestly it was one of the best experiences of my life! Definitely a 5 star place!
While named after the same person, they now have different owners.
Work began on the home in 1890 and completed in 1894. It was estimated to have cost $400,000 (about $9.5 million today).
Try Calling them. B sure 2 have certificate number handy and it date
They said yesterday they plan to stay open. Their message: "It's almost the weekend... Time for Brunch!! Please be aware that in an abundance of caution, we are taking several steps to ease health concerns. In addition to hourly sanitation of frequently touched surfaces and the consistent use of hand sanitizer, we will do our best to insure social distancing when seating guests throughout the mansion. We are temporarily replacing our self service "Indulgence Dessert Table" with plated desserts AND providing a special take-home goodie box from our Pastry Chef for Brunch guests. We look forward to your visit."
Either way is ok. We wore slacks and sweaters to the bar area. Some folds were dressed up in the restaurant. I think anything goes
Yes, there are more than a few options that are gluten free or can be ordered as such.
Nice, if there's entertainment! The Tasha Lord Quartet will be there in Aug.(2nd), I believe.
No, but it's not an Applebee's. So expect to pay about $100.00 for you and someone else. The experience, staff and definitely the food is worth every pretty penny ☺️
Yes it's open. Be sure you are calling the right number. There is A bar, restaurant, and hotel all located inside.
You typically go to eat or take part in an event. You can walk around. You can go for a desert, tea, ... Special events & tours are usually posted on their FaceBook page ...
They are good portions! Your server will help you order exactly what you will need😊
We were just there in August and the room and absinthe were available.
