Checked iPhone via google.I am appalled at the quality of care in nursing homes in California however I remember the words of Nelson Mandela “judge a country by how it treats its old people”. California you are unbelievable disgusting!!!

My mom refers to herself there as "a convict." As they are treated like prisoners. No phones in residents rooms. Had to make a complaint with ombudsman and licensing complaint to the state too. They never answer phones. I go 2 weeks or more with no contact. They had a recent covid outbreak. My mom's room mate was positive tested and then she left. My mom thinks they are trying to kick her out because I made the complaint which ombudsman assured me "they are not allowed to retaliate." But I know organizations in this town often do and get away with it! The food is like jail food. My mom has lost more than 40 pounds in a month or so due to NOT EATING. Nurse forced my mom last week to walk and she begged her and told her she can not. She fell and now has a huge bruise. The whole reason she ended up in nursing homes was from multiple falls at home. My mom told me she would rather "go home and die" than stay there. I asked her "Do you feel safe?" and immediately she says "No." They won't charge her cell phone but she rarely uses one any way. But if she is being mistreated she can not even call us! I had to tell her to "crawl outside and get ahold of us some how if you need to leave." which is crazy and sad and ridiculous. It is Christmas and I sent a few small things to her from Amazon. I highly doubt my mom will get them. The one yesterday the two staff I talked to finally had no idea where they were. Nurse Emily is snarky. She actually laughed on the phone when I called asking "to talk to my mom." laughed.

I'm a travel nurse and have been really happy here at driftwood Healthcare Santa Cruz. The residents are happy and activities staff are amazing!!! Everyone seems to be so nice and the patients are all so happy!!! Thanks for the opportunity to work here and meet such an amazing staff!
