Was referred by my regular eye dr to get a lip biopsy for diagnostic purposes for Sjogren's disease. I thought it was weird that an ophthalmologist was supposed to do that, but Sjogren's does cause dry eyes, too... I got a call after the Ft Lauderdale eye Institute received my referral to schedule the appointment. They said that I needed 2 appointments, one to check dryness in eyes and one to do lip biopsy on mouth. I then told them that I don't drive and need it all on one day, especially needing the lip biopsy to test for Sjogren's. They then scheduled me for 1 appointment for 2 months out for the lip biopsy and that dr (Dr. Gil Epstien could do the full appointment with lip biopsy. Well, day of appointment, I was early for my appointment, and was not seen until at least 2.5 hours after the appointment time. Then, after all of that wait AND paying my co-pay, all he did was flip my eyelids back and said left eye was dryer than right WITHOUT telling me what he was going to do. It freaked me out because I didn't expect him to do that.. After creeping me out and just glancing at my eyes, then he acted like he was done. I asked after what about the lip biopsy. He told me he does not do lip biopsies. That was to be THE ONLY reason for this appointment. I not only waisted my time and money, but also the hours of my mom who had to drive me and wait nearby. Total waste of time. Dr Gil Epstien is completely full of bull. Steer clear of this horrible practice. They over book like 20 patients per dr per hour. This office is totally incompetent.

I have been a patient of Dr. Gil Epstein for a very long time and after seeing him for an annual checkup - which is always a pleasure - I told him about the ophthalmic assistant who did my preliminary exam and he asked me to write a review - so this is it. Rochardo performed the OCT exam and afterwards did the workup before I saw Dr. Epstein. I was so impressed with his professionalism, patience and how knowledgeable he was. He was very kind and very "chill" and for the first time in a long time when he took the pressure in each eye - they ask you to stare at a blue circle on a measuring device and practically push it right up against your eye - so my normal response is to jerk my head back feeling relief that my eye was still in its socket - but this time he was so smooth with the device and I was very calm, so he was able to get an accurate reading without even a blink from me. And for me that was quite a feat! This young man definitely has a stellar career in ophthalmology, if he decides to pursue it. I was very relaxed due to his easygoing manner - even the terminology he used when he was switching lenses to see which one resulted in the most clear image for me was great. I wish Rochardo all the best in his future endeavors and I look forward to seeing him next year for my 2023 annual visit.
