Dr. Pope has treated my family and myself for over 20 years. Now retiring, Dr. McSwain has taken the reins. Just a couple of weeks ago I was seen by Dr. Hao who was professional, courteous with excellent bedside manner. I was made aware that I had an optic tear. Because my symptoms worsened, I returned today but my doctor was in surgery. I was evaluated by Dr. McSwain. By far, he’s one of the most arrogant and incompetent doctors I’ve ever encountered. He was dismissive and went so far to say that the word tear isn’t really used. When reviewing my past medical history, he didn’t even know what ANS or IST stood for. I had to educate the doctor on medical acronyms for which his response was that wasn’t his scope of practice. Instead, he shrugged me off to see my primary because it was likely due to migraines. Considering I’ve been on Ajovy for 9 months migraine free, my symptoms were not related. Black floaters, foggy vision are not migraines. His response, I don’t know really know migraines, but go to your GP to be seen. And ANS stands for autonomic nervous system which was damaged due to Covid and lack of O2 to my brain for 2 weeks, which by the way can have an effect with optic nerves and their functionality. Incompetent isn’t a strong enough word to describe his demeanor and condescending behavior. I strongly suggest to patients to be seen by Dr. Hao because I hope no one has to be treated and disregarded as badly as I had been today. As a previous medical student myself for pathology, his methodology, approach and arrogance is an embarrassment to all doctors.
