Great place about 1.5 miles from Avalon/beach, and very close to botanical gardens and several trailheads. We spent Labor Day Weekend here. Our original site wasn't in the shade, and it was hot, so Regina relocated us to a shadier spot - we appreciated it! We spent most of our time at the beach. Nice town & campground!

Worst run campground I've ever experienced. Sites are jam packed together. Quiet times are not respected whatsoever. People were loudly partying all night long, both nights. Don't expect to get any rest. One bathroom's sink didn't have running water, the next bathroom had vomit all over the floor, and the next one was locked from the inside. When I told Ranger Regina how insufferably loud it was, all night long, she denied it and said it was quiet. So ridiculous. Both nights were equally loud and annoying the whole time. Terrible! Just hotel it out here. We will never return to this joke of a campsite.

Great facilities. Everything you need. You don't even need to bring your own cooking. Coin operated showers, communal fire, safari tents. I'd highly recommend if you want that camping vibe or if you weren't able to book a room in town. An easy bike, hike or taxi away at only 1.2 miles from Avalon.

Close proximity to hikes and the civilization makes HGC location perfect. All amenities included, even free Wi-Fi and shower, for fans of glamping. Also, plenty of wild life roaming camp through the day. When reserving, make sure that your site has a shade, it becomes really hot, especially in summer. Fires with wood not allowed, however, compressed logs are ok, also can do propane cooking as well as grill.

There’s a Ralph’s that’s pretty close by that you can walk to and get any groceries you need.
They do not but the ferry allows you carry on your sleeping bag along with the two bag miminim
I don't know. When I arrived, Ashley, the Ranger, assigned a space to me, and that was it. On another occasion, I asked to change a space, and I was allowed to do it. It's pretty relaxed and easygoing, and Ashley is very helpful; so I wouldn't worry much, ahead of time.
They're not all equal. I'd recommend you stay furthest from the road and also the bathrooms unless u enjoy the sound of cars going by in the middle of the night or people walking past your tent all night long going to and from the bathrooms. During the day and even more importantly at night don't forget to put your food into the fox boxes. if there's food inside or outside your tent at night they will be scratching on your tent or rooting through it if it's outside of your tent!
Well I am not management of Hermit Gulch. ...but there are no cabins just tents and yes I believe the camp grounds are open all year....just give them a call and check out their Web site! Have fun!
Bus runs most the day, there is a schedule at each bus stop so you can get to know the route. We actually walked to and from town each day, it was refreshing and exciting looking forward to coffee in the morning and romantic walking by moon light after dinner and drinks, added to the whole island experience. So we never found out the cost as to whether charge is per ride, day, or unlimited pass fee. Enjoy!
