This is not a showy botanical garden, but it is a wonderful place to learn about the flora of the southeastern United States. I enjoyed it very much

Hi Dail-- The Autumn Crocus, planted in several locations, is Colchicum autumnale. https://plants.ces.ncsu.edu/plants/colchicum-autumnale/ While it has medicinal applications, it is not considered edible due to its potentially toxic compounds. This is a good source, although they show as out of stock at this point: https://brentandbeckysbulbs.com/category/fall-planted-bulbs/colchicum-fall-planted-bulbs/?letter=C&v=7516fd43adaa I have also seen them for sale at area garden centers that carry a good selection of fall bulbs. This species does tend to flower even before the corms are planted, so I would ideally aim to purchase them earlier, maybe around Labor Day. Saffron Crocus (you may have seen this another time in our Culinary Herb section) is Crocus sativus. It is not fully hardy in our area. It differs in appearance from Colchicum autumnale, as its narrow leaves are also present at the same time of flowering. https://www.whiteflowerfarm.com/910891-product.html Hope this helps!

Sure. Go to this page and submit the photo and other info you know about it, such as sun level, moisture of soil, etc., and our Green Gardener will get back to you. https://ncbg.unc.edu/plants/green-gardener/
There are some rules and limits, need to contact them and get a permit.
I would reach out to the garden directly for confirmation about that
Dogs (other than certified service animals) are not allowed in our display gardens at any time. However, leashed dogs are welcome on the Piedmont Nature Trails, just south of our display gardens.
The spring ephemerals are blooming--you'll find most of those in our Mountain Habitat. Other early spring flowers are out, too, including columbine and leatherleaf. You can check out current photos from our Garden on Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/ncbotanicalgarden/
The gift shop hours are the same as the garden hours. The NCBG is closed Mondays. It's open Tuesday through Saturday 9-5, Sunday 1-5.
Our Piedmont Nature Trails vary in length. The Streamside Trail is a 1/2 mile loop, the Oak Hickory Trail is a 3/4 mile loop, and the Elephant Rock Trail is one mile each way. You can pick up a map and guide at our visitor center. Our paths are not paved.
There is no admission cost
Yes, we do have a couple wheelchairs available. Ask for one at the reception desk.
