I adopted a cat from OCAS. Super helpful staff and just an absolutely wonderful selection of pets looking for their forever homes. This buddy is my best friend (who wakes me up every morning with his loving head nudges) and he's truly changed my life for the better. This shelter helped make it possible and I thank them for their priceless contribution to Orange County.

Yes they will require that they be spayed before being adopted which will save literally hundreds more cats from starvation and dreadful lives not to mention being euthanized. Feral cats are always euthanized there and at most places So important to have cats spayed as early as possible since they can get pregnant at such young ages
Trying call sometimes they respond quicker
Yes I believe the shelter will take them so long as they are not been opened.
You must consider veterinary exam, shots, neutering, the cost of running the shelter...it adds up. Pretty much, you pay 100 bucks to save a life. Otherwise, the cat would be euthanized.
Call the shelter . Youll pronbably need to go in pay for pup and fill out paperwork before they will 'hold'
Yes, as long as you live you Orange County.
Yes! The big doors on the right side are open, just use the little door handle, not the big ones!
Yes it is free to drop off there is even an after hours drop off
Call beforehand. Not sure if they're taking in person donations currently.
There are a few places depending on the city he was last seen if it was carborro/chapel hill try the place on Eubanks they mainly are dropped off there since its the main shelter.
No restrictions, sorry!!!
Animal Services does not pick up dead animals. I've heard people putting dead animals in the road and calling DOT.
I would call but... if you go up the the animals shelter. On the right side of the building. There's a side door where you can surrender an abandoned dog or cat. It has signage talking about it. Also inside are kennels to put them in.
It won't cost you money to drop off. It's very helpful for the staff and future owner if you could drop off during business hours and provide some info ( name, likes/dislikes, diet etc) They are not "judgy" and won't try to change your mind. They just want a bit of info to help him/her find their next best home. Hope this helps. It's a FANTASTIC shelter
They do but, I would recommend going to a vet for that.
Yes there is actually...the drop off is on the side and they leave fresh food, water, and blankets for the animals that are dropped.
Please check out animalkind.org for low cost spay/neuter
Please check out animalresourcefriends.org they can use them!
They do not have the appropriate vet for guine pigs or rabbits.
Yes
Hes asking at what age can a pet be neutered if anybody knows. I'll call tomorrow and ask. Llamare manana para averiguarlo.
The adoption fee can be found on their website or by calling the shelter. Fees vary based on age and type of animal, and any promotions that may be running
They have all their shot and are even microchipped! The cost is sometimes reduced if they have too many. I found it quite reasonable
Hi. We are looking for a kitten.
Call the orange county animal shelter they do have a mobile clinic they do certain days it's not expensive at all
Well, there is a snake in the back yard that tried to strike my dog last night. It's a fenced in back yard. I need to have the snake removed.
If you call them and explain your situation I'm sure they will help.
According to my own experience Absolute welcome to give them a call in advance So you will be more welcome to do so
I recommend that you ask the staff first. They may want to know the reasons for bringing the dog to them.
Items must be clean, so bedding needs to be washed and in good condition. Check the website and call the staff if you have questions about specifics. Items like toys and bedding typically need to be in good enough condition that they'll hold up to repeated washing.
They are not animal control.
OCAS occasionally uses euthanasia, but do not write off this shelter on that basis. They are a highly ethical shelter who can't refuse to take dying animals who are suffering like no-kill shelters can. The shelter is extremely well managed and transparent about use of euthanasia. The annual reports are publicly available and thorough. The staff have given significant attention to creating programs that reduce the use of euthanasia as much as possible. They started a foster program for young kittens and for skittish cats who need to some attention and socialization before being adopted. They also have a barn cat program for non-adoptable feral cats. The programs provide the best quality of life possible for all animals. The staff clearly care about the animals and do not euthanize unless there is a medical/behavioral issue that puts other animals at risk or is causing suffering that can't be alleviated.
I don't think this is a question about the shelter. I don't think this is against the law as long as the dog has shelter and water, but that does not make it right.
Yes. We have a before slash after hours drop off area just follow the sign when you get into the parking lot.
Like most places they can do it anytime but it will cost a little more than waiting for them to run a clinic. They do this fairly often just call to see when the next one is.
Should be but with limited services.
There is no cut off you can do it if there past 1 year.
