Our Progress Hybrid has been the principal heat source for our home through 8 winters. It is well-engineered, and impressively efficient compared to the 2003 Jotul we had before it -- 4 cords of wood per winter to heat our 3000 sq ft foam insulated house in Connecticut. We only turn on the supplementary heat below 10F or when we go away. And the beautiful flames entrance us nightly.

A metal chimney could be installed that would allow for venting through a wall. So yes, so type of chimney IS required.

How can I clean water/ rust stains off the soapstone? The stone is variegated grey color. Thank you
Hi Mark, Thank you for your inquiry. The new catalysts have a substrate of stainless dura-foil, but still have a wash coat of precious metals that activates the burn off of the gas vapors in the wood smoke. This wash coat is viable for 12,000 to 14,000 burn hours- typically 4-6 years for most folks.
