William B. Pond Picnic Facilities

The "ponds" were from the Gravel Pit days prior to the County developing William B. Pond (a person) in the 1970's. Gravel was taken leaving very large, deep wholes or pits which did fill from rain etc. They were full of catfish. If you want good fishing try Sarah Ct or right by the Sheriff's Training Academy, Sand Bar Circle. Harrington's Landing is not bad either. It all depends on what you're wanting to catch. Beware, E Coli is very high on the American River right now, even up this far. If you're looking for stocked fish, So. Side Park and Howe Park are good choices. No. Fork of the Yuba is good for stocked river. If you do fish at William B Pond, park by the Boy Scout Gazebo. Walk to the left on the dirt path. Turn right at the first garbage can then continue to the next garbage can. To the left-center you should see a trail that will take you to a great little spot to "hopefully" call your own. From what the website says, and from my experience since 2000. They stock trout in the cooler months, Largemouth live there year round, bluegill, carp and catfish. However since they decided to ruin the place by bulldozing both sides of the pond to let the river run through..who knows anymore. Fish will still find places in the coves and open water to hold up...but both areas that now have water running in and out of them are done. Which sucks because both areas were about the deepest parts of the pond and held good size fish year round. My personal best of a little over 8lb bass came from one of those areas.

I think so, you may need your own BBQ grill to get really close to the river.

Tons of great swimming areas at this location. I personally like going to the rapids area. But there os great swimming everywhere

Trout and blue gill, kinda hot now trout are deep

It's a park that has access to the American River and the associated AR trail that you can walk, run, ride on along the river. So...it's a park.

Fishing

Yes you need a fishing license period too fish in most bodies of water in California. State laws.unless its private property.

Its $5 and holidays is $8

There are lots of bbq pits in the grassy areas with pinic tables. I don't know if it is legal to have a fire elsewhere like in banks of river or pond.

William B Pond Recreation Area is only accessible from 6:00 am to 8:30 pm Monday through Sunday.

Bass trout bluegill and I believe I've also seen catfish
