I wanted to thank Eli, who worked the route for a property I manage. I accidentally chucked my office keys with the rest of my trash while he was loading the truck and he took the time to look and find them before he drove off. He could've just as easily have told me no and left, but his help made my afternoon a lot less stressful than it could've been. People use reviews to air grievances most of the time, so I wanted to say thank you again for helping me out and being so nice.

I am working on a construction project in my yard. This has required me to rent several 10 yard dumpsters from EJ. One of these dumpsters was ready for pickup, so I called an arranged for pickup. I was told it would be picked up “between 8 and 5”. Pretty large window, if you ask me, but I understand. The truck arrived promptly at 8am, but I was asleep (I worked late the night prior). Well, unfortunately, when the truck arrived there was a car in the street behind the dumpster, so EJ did not pick up. I received a call from an unknown number that I assume was the driver, but no voicemail with any indication of what the issue was. I called the next day to see why the dumpster was still in the street and was informed of the car and the additional $42 “dry run” fee I was being charged. I understand the driver being inconvenienced by a car in a public street, but being charged $42 dollars when the EJ yes is about a mile and a half away seems excessive. If I had been given a more solid time (even a several hour limit), I could have more easily notified neighbors and kept an eye out. Unfortunately I do not have the authority to control who parks on the public street for 9 hours out of the day. EJ obviously had my address, and for $42 dollars plus the dumpster fee you’d think the driver could’ve walked to my front door and knocked, but what do I know? The customer service rep was extremely nice, but was unable to remove the additional fee due to “policy”. Thanks for nothing, EJ Harrison. Maybe next time I’ll rent out the whole street in preparation of your indeterminate arrival.

We all seem able to out our cans out every week on time. Now we’re being asked to put food waste in bags and out that in yard waste. One more thing we do for them. They fail to pick up trash and was told to put it out on Monday and they will send someone out! I think Ventura County needs to get some competition in here. They do whatever they want and rates go up and up!

Hi Diana, Unfortunately, the barrels and lift arms are not designed to for heavy loads, like brick and dirt. If the load is too heavy, the barrel could be damaged, or the arm may not be able to tilt the can into the truck. Good Morning Jane, Great question! You are correct, one of the goals of food recycling to prevent the generation of greenhouse gases, such as methane, at the landfills, and to capture those gases for use. Unfortunately, the process is affected my many factors such as: 1. Customer participation 2. Types of foods and materials collected (right now, there is still trash and other materials in the food stream) 3. Extra sorting and processing of this material. 4. How the food material is recycled. And the list goes on! In the short term, you will probably not see a reduction in your bill. However, the goal of the Harrison family, and the regulation, is reduce waste to the landfills. In the long term, this could mean smaller trash containers, which might reduce our customers' trash bills. Thank you, EJ Harrison and Sons

Hi Joanna, You have a couple of options. For household electronics, you can bring those to our partner company, Gold Coast Recycling. They are located at 5272 Colt Street, in Ventura. Gold Coast also accepts larger items, like TVs, but not everyone has a vehicle large enough to transport those larger items. Here is the information for the City of Ventura: The City of Ventura’s Environmental Sustainability Division sets aside the third Saturday of the month (except during December) for Ventura residents to safely dispose of HHW at Gold Coast Recycling (5275 Colt St., Ventura). The biggest size dumpster we have is a 4 cubic yd bin. We have 1.5 cubic yard bins and 3 cubic yard bins available as well. We also have 10 yard, 25 yard, and 40 yard roll off containers available.
Hello Brenda, If you have Yard Waste Barrel service, you can place the tree next to your barrel, and we will pick it up on your normal service day. If you live in a group of apartments or condos, we sent out letters to Property Owners, so we could schedule tree pickups for all units on the same day.
