The folks that work here are pretty nice. They have to deal with a lot of theft at this location, so just remember that if you find yourself wondering why they have upped security and secret shoppers. But they usually have everything stocked up pretty well and all of the store except the restroom is very clean. The restroom.....no matter how much they clean it, it smells awful non stop. That's my only issue:)

The ole sang “treat people how you would want to be treated.” is an ideology I’ve always lived by and consider one of my most important daily practices. This being said a few nights ago right before closing and right before pay day, I remembered I had about $15 left on a gift card that my mother had given me a while back, but of course I knew my chances were slim to use it because of Safeways policy regarding all gift cards, which stated that all “gift cards” must ironically be printed in order to use. Indeed I use the term loosely considering the extra step they require that no other market or company I know of requires, you would think with such a policy you would be able to apply it to their app that I have already downloaded, but no, it must be printed, regardless of your ability and means to have something printed. The last card I had ended up costing me just over $5 worth of printing, some prints were used to get the right sizing and in the end after all of the editing, the final copy for one print to be at the required level of quality to be scanned by the cashier cost me $2.50– thus, as previous mentioned, coming to just over $5 in printing cost. With all of this knowledge in mind at 9:45p, when most certainly any print stores are closed, including the library and so as I approached the Money Gram/Tobacco counter I recognized the same manager that earlier this week, had so graciously let me scan my phone after the printed copy I presented failed a dozen times. Keep in mind he was very diligent in checking that the “gift card” (as Safeway call it) was actually mine, he ordered me to bring up the gift card from its original email and even read the email directly from my mother verifying it’s origin. It’s these reasons I thought to myself the tall voice-tress manager would be more likely to work with me one more time so I could get something to eat, as I alluded getting something printed has been really difficult, but I should clarify that being homeless makes it even harder. I approach the desk, while he’s talking to security about something and very nicely begin to ask, even talking at a lower decibel than usual when all of a sudden he just starts yelling at me and putting his hands in the air saying, “what is wrong with you? I told you it has to be printed! You had how many days to have this printed and you expect me to scan your phone again when you know the rules!l I remained super calm and asked firstly, ‘why are you yelling at me?’ He didn’t stop there and just kept yelling, I finally said, “please stop yelling, never mind I’m sorry’ and went and returned the food and bought a 99cent little cup of potato salad. I’m newly homeless, I never steal, dress nicely and still have a job, but times are tough and the arrogance displayed from this manager, complimented by his lack of compassion and ability to reciprocate the same level of rhetoric received upon, makes me question the department who would hire such a person to represent the friendly neighborhood market that Safeway is supposed to personify that I’ve been typing in my Club card at for over 30 years. Regardless, I still choose to treat people how I want to be treated in order to be an example of how to act, instead of how not to that one of your managers so arrogantly displayed for me. ***Regardless if the gift card was printed or not, there should never be a reason any manager or staff should yell at a customer when they are remaining qualm and cordially asking a question: Full Stop 🛑

Really large Safeway (for a city metro) with full produce, butcher, and bakery sections. Also there’s a gas station attached to this one, as an added bonus.

Are you ever going to go back to ‘Normal’ open hours? It used to be 24/7 here in Ballard. Then went to 1 am. Now it’s 11 pm. Customers I’ve spoken with would be happy with 1 am again let alone 2 am where required by law is shutdown time for alcohol sales here in Washington.

What are the Covid safety practices like here?

So-so, but similar to most grocery stores. Like most markets in Seattle, there are arrows on the floor (that some shoppers and many workers ignore). Mask policy is strictly enforced. They do NOT wipe down check out areas after each customer (whole Foods and Trader Joe's, amongst others, do). They clean carts and baskets though. No reservation needed to shop.
